The weather was absolute crap. And, in this challenging year, in this year of the plague, it seems appropriate that the cold and rain challenged the elite women and men on Sunday, as they toured the loop around St. James Park nineteen plus times.
The wind, the rain and the cold played havoc with the elite athletes, but, in the end, Brigid Kosgei won the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon in 2:18.58.
LONDON (GBR): Brigid Kosgei was happy just to defend her title at the Virgin Money London Marathon yesterday. The Kenyan was more than four minutes outside her world record set last year but the conditions were against her, she said at the official press conference today. “I was happy just to be in the same position as last year. The weather was very difficult. It was cold and there was wind in parts of the course, and rain. So it was a very hard race. I promise to do better in the future.”
