MOSCOW (RUS): Russian championships medalists in Olympic events in 2020 will recieve financial awards from the country. Gold medalists 180 000 rubles (around 2465 USD), silver winners 90 000 and bronze winners 54 000. Also World record breakers 250 000 and European record breakers 150 000, Russian record is worth of 75 000 rubles, this relates only to olympic events. World champion in high jump Mariya Lasitskene said among other per Russian media: “I do not at all like the idea of getting 180 thousand rubles for winning the Russian championship. Now is not the time for such gestures, when the majority of our citizens are going through a difficult period. Just give me back my rightful opportunity to perform and earn money myself. I understand that all these amounts can help athletes. But this award is a step back. With such one-time gestures, we only kill the whole idea of restoration, development of our sport and individual tournaments within the country on a regular basis.” Lasitskene also said she will give the award to her native sports school in Prokhladnye and to charity.
