OSTRAVA (CZE, Feb 3): At the Czech Indoor Gala (WIT Silver), world indoor champion Pavel Maslák returned to winning ways with a 46.22 EL performance over 400m, beating Ricardo dos Santos (46.64 NR for Portugal) into second. Mbongo Cynthia Bolingo won the women’s race in 52.89. Tina Sutej improved twice the meeting record with 463 and 470 pole vault clearances. She also tried at national record 476. Meraf Bahta eased to a 1500m win in 4:15.88. Tomas Stanek had three throws over 20m, headed by 20.94m, as he won the shot. Egyptian Mostafa Amr Hassan was second with 20.67m. Petr Svoboda clocked 7.71 to win his 60m hurdles heat in the national programme but then did not take his place in the final as precautionary measure. Poland talent Pia Skrzyszkowska took three hundredths off her best in winning the women’s event in 8.02. Jamie Webb set a second PB in as many races as he won the 800m in 1:46.45 followed by Czechs who got personal bests – Filip Snejdr 1:46.63 and Lukas Hodbod 1:46.93. Oliver Bromby won the 60m in 6.65 from Dominik Kopeć and Jan Veleba both 6.670 in a tie. Jamile Samuel won the women’s in 7.28 as Inna Eftimova was second in 7.33. Hungarian fresh World leader from Vienna István Szögi proved himself with 3:39.28 win in the 1500m. He was followed by Charles Grethen NR for Luxembourg 3:39.49 and Filip Sasinek 3:39.75 indoor PB. Radek Juska got long jump 790 and Bulgarian Tihomir Ivanov high jump 221.
