Yulimar Rojas and Wayde Van Niekerk are athletics royalty in track crazy Spain! On June 19, both Rojas and Van Niekerk will be competing at the Meeting de Madrid. EME News provided a quick preview below on the exciting meeting!

Yulimar Rojas, Van Niekerk

MADRID (ESP): Fresh from a wind-assisted 7.27m long jump in La Nucia, Yulimar Rojas will return to triple jump action at the Meeting de Madrid on 19 June (WACT Silver). The men’s triple jump will be another highlight of the meeting featuring 18 meter-plus jumpers Pedro Pablo Pichardo and Hugues Fabrice Zango and Germany’s former European champion Max Hess. World champion Anderson Peters from Grenada faces the German duo of Bernhard Seifert and Julian Weber in the javelin. On the track, world record-holder Wayde Van Niekerk is due to contest only his second international 400m since 2017 against a top field including world silver medallist Anthony Zambrano from Colombia and European indoor champion Oscar Husillos. In other sprinting events, recent sub-10 performers Akani Simbine and Gift Leotlela from South Africa face European finalist Filippo Tortu from Italy in the 100m and Andrew Pozzi takes on the fast-improving Asier Martinez in the 110m hurdles. In-form Freweyni Hailu headlines the women’s 1500m and world 800m silver medallist Amel Tuka from Bosnia and Herzegovina faces Tony Van Diepen and top Spaniards Saul Ordonez, Alvaro De Arriba and Mariano Garcia in the men’s 800m.
