This is day 3, of week 3 at the Brooks/RunBlogRun Spring Middle Distance Daily Track Training, our daily training program. Today is an easy day. We are all mortal engines and hard day/easy day is what seems to work best with many athletes. Danny Mackey knows this. As he develops college athletes into world class racers from 800m to the marathon, Danny has to look at personal training programs, fine tuned for each athlete.

As a high school athlete, you probably have one coach for the average 38 athletes on your high school track team. Communicate with your coach, text him or her and keep them updated on how you are feeling, how you like workouts (keep it constructive), and ask questions. Learn more about training and racing, and your coach. Coaching is both art and science. The best coach / athlete relationships have buy-ins by both coach and athlete. Show your interest, and ask your coach for advice.

Danny Mackey is the founding coach of Brooks Beasts TC. He also is a man, who is “possessed with the scientific method”, to quote Kenny Moore, the famous writer, who wrote about marathoner Ron Hill. Danny looks at all sides of the athletic experience for his athletes. He wants them, when they get to the starting line, to have total confidence in their workouts, and overall core training, sports nutrition and sports psychology. Danny looks at everything, and he loves doing that for his athletes.

Brooks presents: 2022 RunBlogRun Spring Middle Distance Daily Track Training (800m-5000m), Week 3, Day 3

Monday: warm up, 30-45 minutes moderate running, 4 x 100m stride outs, cool down

Tuesday: 45 minutes running on trails, 4 times 2 minutes hard, with 5 minute moderate running, warm up and cooldown

Wednesday: warm up, 30-45 minutes, moderate running, 4 x 100m stride outs, cooldown

Thursday: warm up, warm up, 45 minute fartlek, 10 minutes running, then 12 x 1 minute hard, 1 minute easy, 11 minutes running, then cooldown

Friday: warm up, 30-45 minutes moderate running, 4 x100m stride outs, cooldown

Saturday: warm up, All comers meet, indoor meet, 800m if you are 3-5k, 3k if you are 800m person, 3k if you are 1,500m person, cooldown

Sunday: 55-60 minutes moderate pace, on trails
