Many schools will head out to Palo Alto this weekend for the Stanford Invitational. The wonderful spring weather and cool nights are perfect conditions to run a fast 5,000m, 10,000m, or steeplechase qualifier.

For many years, when I was located in San Jose, I would drive up, watch the meet, and head home, Peets’ coffee in hand, having worshipped the gods of athletics one more time. I was there in 2019, and felt lucky to see the fantastic meet.

We have added a pdf of the meet schedule right here, so enjoy the event! 2022 Stanford Invite (FINAL) v13019 (1).pdf

STANFORD, Calif. – The outdoor season starts this weekend for the Razorback distance crew as they compete in distances from 800m to 10,000m at the 2022 Stanford Invitational held at Cobb Track and Angell Field on April 1-2.

Arkansas will have a group of seven racing this Friday and Saturday. The Razorbacks compete in the 1,500m, 5,000m and 10,000m on Friday and then race at 800m on Saturday.

Coverage of the meet will be available through Flotrack, which requires a subscription, at the following link: https://bit.ly/36IirFU. Live results are available here: https://rt.trackscoreboard.com/meets/4122/events.

“The 10,000m always sets up at Stanford to be ideal, along with the 5,000m as well,” said Arkansas women’s head coach Lance Harter. “In our situation we are going to try to get some regional qualifying marks in the 1,500m out of the way as well. So, we are going to take advantage of it as best as we possibly can.

“As long as the winds are down, the track is fast, and they set up the races for great head-to-head competition. The results are fast marks. With the outdoor format of just trying to get a qualifier among the top 48 in the West region, Stanford notoriously produces a lot of those marks.”

Lauren Gregory will make her debut in the 10,000m while Logan Jolly and Sydney Thorvaldson compete in the 5,000m.

Entered in the 1,500m are Krissy Gear, Gregory, Carmie Prinsloo, Kennedy Thomson, and Isabel Van Camp. Scheduled for the 800m are Gear, Jolly, Prinsloo, Thomson, and Van Camp. The Razorbacks will be split up among sections in those events.

Teams racing in the Stanford Invitational include Air Force, Arizona State, Boise State, BYU, California, Cal Poly, Colorado, Colorado State, Gonzaga, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Northern Arizona, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, San Diego State, Santa Clara, South Dakota, UCLA, USC, Utah, Utah State, Washington State, and Wisconsin.

Competing in the 1,500m Invite at 6:26 p.m. (PT) are Gear, Thomson, and Van Camp. The field includes 2021 NCAA 1,500m champion Anna Camp of BYU, who is now a professional, Stanford’s Christina Aragon, and BYU’s Courtney Wayment. Gregory is in section 2 of the 1,500m at 6:20 p.m. while Prinsloo races earlier at 1:27 p.m. in heat 5.

Jolly is in the 5,000m Invite section, which will start at 8:11 p.m., and includes a few professional runners among 20 entrants. Thorvaldson races in section 2 of the 5,000m at 7:15 p.m.

Gregory is scheduled to race at 8:48 p.m. on Friday evening in the 10,000m Invite among a field of 29 entrants, which includes finalists from last year’s NCAA 10,000m final – Jessa Hanson of Northern Arizona (11th) and Cailie Louge of Iowa State (14th) – as well as recent finalist in the NCAA Indoor 5,000m – New Mexico’s Amelia Mazza-Downie (7th) and Emma Heckel (14th).
