The 2022 European Athletics Champs are upon us! They will be happening in Munich, Germany as part of the European Championships event. RunBlogRun will be covering the EA Champs each and every day. We have the entries below for your viewing pleasure.

If you would like to follow along from Day 1 to Day 7, (August 15-21, 2022) with the live blog, which will be managed by RunBlogRun’s Larry Eder, please click here!

Can Sandra Perkovic win her sixth title? Will Jakob Ingebrigtsen, fresh off his silver in the 1,500 metres and gold in the 5,000 metres at the World Champs, defend his Berlin 2018 titles in the 1,500 metres and 5,000 metres? How about Mondo Duplantis? Mondo is defending his title in Munich from Berlin 2018; what height will he clear to keep us in awe? And finally, Femke Bol is doubling in the 400-meter flat and the 400-meter hurdles. Will she win both?

The 2022 European Athletics Champs are upon us!

The European Athletics Championships take place from 15-21 August and are part of the wider multisport European Championships in the Bavarian capital from 11-21 August.

The entry-lists feature no fewer than 31 reigning individual champions from Berlin 2018, including Croatia’s Sandra Perkovic, who is targeting a record-breaking sixth successive title in the discus.

All 10 European gold medallists from the World Athletics Championships in Oregon are due to compete, although not necessarily in the event in which they struck gold. World 1500m champion Jake Wightman will drop down to the 800m, and world 35km race walk champion Massimo Stano will contest the 20km race walk.

At least four athletes on the entry list competed when Munich hosted the 2002 edition of the European Athletics Championships. Those four are Czech Republic’s world javelin record-holder Barbora Spotakova, France’s 2016 Olympic discus silver medallist Melina Robert-Michon and Portuguese race walkers Joao Vieira and Ines Henriques.

By contrast, the youngest athlete on the entry list is Sarolta Kriszt, 15, who is part of Hungary’s women’s 4x400m relay team.
