This is the release on the announcement that Nike has extended its contract with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

Marathons in Chicago date back to 1905, and current Chicago Marathon, first called the Mayor Daley Marathon in its 1977 debut. The race went world class in 1985, under Beatrice, who had supported a $250,000 first prize in the 1984 race, and the battle was on.

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon and Nike Extend Official Sponsorship Through 2028

CHICAGO – The Bank of America Chicago Marathon announced today the extension of its official sponsorship with Nike through 2028. The official sponsorship will include the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle and Bank of America Chicago 13.1, which make up Chicago’s premier racing portfolio. Nike has been the official footwear and apparel partner for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon since 2008.

“Nike is an incredible partner, and we’re thrilled to announce their extended sponsorship,” said Bank of America Chicago Marathon Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski. “Nike’s investment in our events is felt throughout the participant experience, from the latest training tools and tips to innovative apparel and footwear technology, allowing runners to get the best version of themselves throughout their running journey – whether it’s their first 5K or their 44th marathon.”

Nike has always believed in the power of the running community and its ability to bring people from all backgrounds, cultures, and abilities together in a shared purpose grounded in sport. With a deep legacy in running and empowering runners, Nike continues to invest in innovation to grow running. They have continued to invest in creativity and innovation to grow the sport community – particularly in running – to show that sport belongs to all. Nike’s partnership with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and presence in the city is an examples of the brand’s commitment to expanding the running community across diverse neighborhoods and backgrounds.

Through its Nike Run Club (NRC) App, Nike has provided athletes with a way to connect with friends and other runners through experiences and challenges. Additionally, Nike continues to create access to sport by supporting local run crews and running specialty stores that are deeply involved in the running community such as Heartbreak Hill Running Company and Last Lap Cornerstore.

As an event sponsor, Nike produces official merchandise for race participants and event staff. Nike recently released the official 2022 Bank of America Chicago Marathon merchandise collection. Keeping Chicago at the forefront with the iconic municipal symbol scattered throughout the pieces, participants will represent the city’s history while commemorating their accomplishments. The official merchandise collection includes both performance running and lifestyle apparel that can be purchased online, in-store at Nike Chicago, or at the Abbott Health & Fitness Expo this weekend.

This year, participants and visitors will also get to see defending champions and Nike Athletes Ruth Chepngetich and Seifu Tura return to defend their titles and take on the Bank of America Chicago Marathon, alongside fellow top athletes.

During the 2022 Bank of America Chicago Marathon weekend, Nike is hosting several activations including shakeout runs, athlete Q&A conversations, community pop-up experiences, and so much more for runners and visitors.

Nike Members will access the Nike Member Service Hub at 673 Michigan Avenue, next door to Nike Chicago. The Member Service Hub will have a juice bar, recovery stations, nutrition information, and special guest appearances by Nike athletes. Additionally, medal engraving will be available for finishers on Sunday and Monday. Nike Membership is free; you can find full details and explore more Nike experiences here.

The 44th running of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon will take place this Sunday. For more on the event and information, visit chicagomarathon.com.
