1. The New York City Marathon, the first of the Big City Marathons.
2. The 1976 course, the one used now, was only supposed to be run one year, but no one told Fred Lebow that!
3. NYC became the model for other big city marathons.
4. This is NYC Marathon week.
5. Will cover the NYC Marathon remotely this week. Thanks to Justin Lagat and Jeff Benjamin.
6. More cross-country state meets this weekend, and college conferences and regionals are happening as well!
7. Athletics (cross country and track) count for 1/9 high school athletes or 1.6 /9.7 million athletes competing in high schools!
8. 30th fatality walking in San Jose, CA this year. Lesson: please wear highly visible clothes when running around dusk, and stop selfies when running in traffic areas.
