Coffee with Larry, John Bicourt, Joan Benoit Samuelson, Grete Waitz, Lilac Grand Prix, Dubai Marathon, European Indoors…

This is our new program, Coffee with Larry for Tuesday, January 17, 2023!

This is my daily chat with #RunBlogRun viewers and tracks fans on all things track & field!

This is Coffee With Larry for Tuesday, January 17, 2023.

Our topics;

1. The American Track league is back, Friday-Saturday, January 20-21, 2023, The Hawkeye Pro Classic, Iowa City, Iowa. The ATL is sponsored by PUMA.

2. John Bicourt, British steepler, 1972, 1976 Olympian, 4th in 1974 Commonwealth Games steeple and first agent in UK, has died of cancer at age 77. AW did a wonderful obit on John, who loved the sport and wore his feelings on his proverbial shirtsleeve. John was also the first agent to represent Kenyan athletes, I believe: https://athleticsweekly.com/…/olympic-steeplechaser…/…

3. Some respect for Joan Benoit Samuleson, great stories about the Olympic Trials in 1984, and the Olympics. Joan has championed women’s running for most of her career. Joan was first Olympic marathon champion for women and she was a total beast master.

4. Grete Waitz, her legacy lives on. I never thought that Grete got the respect that she deserves. Grete was the 1983 WC at the marathon, the 1984 Olympic silver medalist, and her legacy lives on with Aktiv against Cancer.

5. Lilac Grand Prix at The Podium at Spokane, WA on January 27, 2023, A world athletics indoor tour silver event, sponsored by Union Athletic Club.

6. NB Indoor Grand Prix, which will be held on February 4, 2023. Watch for Gabby Thomas, Jake Wightman, and Noah Lyles vs. Trayvon Bromell, www.nbindoorgrandprix.com.

7. Millrose Games, #115, great fields, February 11, 2023, www.millrosegames.com.

8. Dubai International Marathon, Feb. 12, first-time race is on a Sunday! www.dubaimarathon.org.

9. European Indoors, Instanbul, Turkey, March 2-6, 2022, www.european-athletics.com

10. NB Nationals (Indoor nationals), March 10-12, The TRACK at new balance, nbnationals.com.

Enjoy your day!
