Duplantis wants to defend in Glasgow.
GLASGOW (GBR): Mondo Duplantis has confirmed that he intends to defend his title at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow in March next year. Duplantis set his second WR in Glasgow in February 2020. He improved to 6.20m at the last World Indoor Championships, held in Belgrade in March 2022. Speaking to World Athletics at the World Athlete of the Year Awards in Monaco, the World Record holder said, “I haven’t been there since that record. Yes, I have really good memories of it. I know that it’s a really good place to jump and I know that it’s a place that I can jump high. So I’m excited about it”.

RunBlogRun Opines: Mondo Duplantis is one of our finest athletes in the sport. The former AOY and this year’s WA Field event AOY draws crowds all over the world.

Mondo Duplantis is one of the most talented athletes in our sport, and his fitness level is amazing. Consider his seven World records, with the current World record outdoors, 6.23m (20 feet, 5.5 inches) and 6.22m indoor (20 feet, 5 inches).

Mondo won his first title at the age of 18 at the European Champs in Berlin in 2018. He then took silver at the World Champs in 2019 and followed in 2022 and 2023 with World Championship gold and World Records!

This is our interview with Mondo at the LA Grand Prix (May 2023): https://www.runblogrun.com/2023/07/in-the-mixed-zone-with-mondo-duplantis-la-grand-prix-may-27-2023.html

What is ironic is that my media colleagues and I just asked Seb Coe, President of the World Athletics Federation, about star power at the World Indoor Champs. We have Laura Muir running a swift 8:34 over the weekend, and now Mondo Duplantis noting his interest in Glasgow to get his second gold medal in the indoor world champs.
