This is the preview of the 2025 Stockholm Diamond League, which will be held on Sunday, June 15, 2025.
Warholm, Duplantis, Alfred, Bol and Bolt
STOCKHOLM (SWE): The Wanda Diamond League continue on Sunday with the Stockholm Diamond League (Bauhaus Galan) at the Stockholm Olympic Stadium. Strong fields are assembled with many returning from Oslo on Thursday. A number of Meeting Records are in danger with good weather conditions forecast. The hurdles super trio will meet again now at 400 m hurdles (Warholm, Benjamin, Dos Santos), Duplantis is also back on home soil, also from Oslo Julien Alfred in the 100 m, Femke Bol goes 400 m hurdles. And Usain Bolt will be also present in his first meetings tour in Europe since 2017 retirement. Diamonds are again ready for meet record breakers. It is expected the legendary Olympic Stadium will be sold out.
Event-by-Event Previews
Men
100 m (non-DL): Three sub 10 sprinters in the pre-programme: Azamati, Leotlela and Kyree King.
200m: Reynier Mena of Cuba, who on in Oslo, competes again alongside Joseph Fahnbulleh, Kyree King and Aaron Brown amongst others.
800m: Oslo winner and Olympic Champion Emmanuel Wanyonyi returns as do Djamel Sedjati and Gabriel Tual. This time they are joined by Americans World Indoor Champion Josh Hoey and Bryce Hoppel. Potential for another fast time.
5000m: Cole Hocker, 1500m Olympic Champion, is entered for the 5000m, other notable names include home favourite Andreas Almgren. Selemon Barega has withdrawn.
400H: The big three compete again, this time over 400m hurdles, with Karsten Warholm, Rai Benjamin and Alison dos Santos. Matheus Lima, Alastair Chalmers, Carl Bengstrom and Emil Agyekum also in the field. MR is 46.80 by Alison Dos Santos (2022).
PV: How high will Mondo Duplantis go? The World Record at a home meeting will undoubtedly be on his mind. Joined again by Emmanouil Karalis, Sam Kendricks, Renaud Lavillenie and Kurtis Marschall. They will be joined by the winner of competition in Taby on Saturday (field includes Chris Nilsen and KC Lightfoot).
DT: Kristjan Ceh, Matthew Denny and Olympic Champion Roje Stona headline a strong men’s discus field.
1500m (non-DL): George Mills, who broke the British Record for 5000m in Oslo, drops down to the 1500m, where he faces Samuel Pihlstrom (Swedish Records for 1500m in Rome and mile in Oslo), Narve Gilje Nordas, Federico Riva (Italian Record in Oslo) and 800m specialist Mohamed Attaoui.
3000SC (non-DL): 2024 World Indoor Champion Geordie Beamish (3000m) is joined by American Evan Jager, Ethiopian Getnet Wale and Samuel Firewu.
Women
100m: Julien Alfred will compete again after her 100m opener yesterday. She is joined again by Dina Asher Smith, Patrizia Van Der Weken, Zaynab Dosso and Marie Josee Ta Lou Smith. Meeting Record of 10.90 by Irina Privalova, set in 1994, may be in threat.
200 m (non-DL): Thelma Davies who runs for Liberia has the fastest SB 22.46.
400m: Top five from Oslo return to compete again, including Isabella Whittaker and Henriette Jaeger (NR in Oslo). Joined this time by Martina Weil and Andrea Miklos. MR is 49.70 by Allyson Felix.
800m: World Champion Mary Moraa and World Indoor Champion Prudence Sekgodiso compete, joined by Brits Jemma Reekie and Georgia Hunter Bell, plus Audrey Werro, Oratile Nowe and Addison Wiley. Also FBK Games winner Anais Bougoin. Previously announced Keely Hodgkinson does not compete due to injury.
3000m: No clear favourite in the women’s 3000m. Notable entries include European Indoor bronze medallist Salome Afonso of Portugal and Spaniard Marta Garcia who has the fastest PB (8:29.32). British junior Innes FitzGerald is a late addition.
100H: Another strong 100m hurdles field includes six women who have run inside 12:40, including former World Record holder Kendra Harrison, Ackera Nugent, Alaysha Johnson and Grace Stark. Top Europeans Nadine Visser and Pia Skrzyszowska also compete as does World Indoor Record holder Devynne Charlton (60H). Brianna McNeal’s 12.38 (2018) Meeting Record could be in danger.
400H: Femke Bol headlines the field and may target her Meeting Record of 52.27, after running 52.51 in Hengelo on Monday. She is joined by Oslo winner Dalilah Muhammad amongst others. Anna Hall has withdrawn after falling in Oslo.
HJ: First European competition of the season for World Record holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh. She is joined by Australian duo Nicola Olyslagers and Eleanor Patterson, Angelina Topic of Serbia and American Vashti Cunningham.
LJ: Olympic Champion Tara Davis Woodhall competes as does fellow American and World Indoor Champion Claire Bryant in her European debut. Joined by Larissa Iapichino, Malaika Mihambo, Annik Kalin, Jasmine Moore and Monae Nichols.
PV (Saturday): Rome winner Sandi Morris returns, with the competition being held in Taby on Saturday. Fellow Americans Gabriela Leon and Emily Grove, European Champion angelica Moser, Tina Sutej, Elina Lampela and Italians Roberta Bruni and Elisa Molinarolo complete the field.
DT (non-DL): Laulauga Tausaga, Denia Caballero, Jorinde van Klinken and home athlete Vanessa Kamga contest the non-DL discus throw.
