Germany shot put medal sweep
BERGEN (NOR, Jul 17): Germany sits top of the medal table after the first day of the European U23 Championships after a podium sweep in the women’s shot put. Nina Chioma Ndubuisi won the competition with a best throw of 17.73m, joined on the podium by Jolina Lange (17.04m PB) and Helena Kopp (16.90m PB).
The other final came in the men’s 10000m, where just 0.04 seconds separated the top-two finishers. Denmark’s Joel Ibler Lillesø outsprinted Jonathan Grahn from Sweden, with the pair finishing in 29:05.45 and 29:05.49 respectively. Both set PBs in the process. Spaniard Jaime Migallon took bronze with 29:06.85.

Roko Farkas of Croatia leads the decathlon after the first of two days of competition, with 4355 points. Currently in second and third place are Brit Sammy Ball (4254) and Jeff Tesselaar of the Netherlands (4168). Also in action in heats were Audrey Werro (800m), Stefan Nillessen (1500m) and Henriette Jaeger (400m) who all progressed from their respective heats. Nillessen is attempting a 1500m-3000m steeplechase double and Jaeger in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m relay. Bozhidar Saraboyukov leaped in the long jump qualification to excellent 813 (0.0). Dutch high jump hope Britt Weerman was not qualifying after an injury.
