One of the coolest things that happens in my year is the Global Athletics Athlete Business gathering. It happens most years now in October or November, and it allow me access (and a few other media organizations) to many of Global Athletics & Marketing’s athletes. In 2023, I did 25 interviews in 3 days (I was exhausted) and in 2024 (November), I did eight interviews (still exhausted).

This was my first time meeting Nico Young, who had just signed with adidas. Nico Young has had a superb USATf Outdoor Championships in early August 2025. Nico Young outkicked Grant Fisher to win the Men’s 10,000m in a very tactical championship race, going 3:56 over the last 1,600 meters! As Nico already had the 10,000m World Champs standard (27:00.00), Nico is going to Tokyo.

In the 5,000m, Nico Young took the lead with less than 1,000m to go, and held on for dear life to third place, holding off Drew Hunter by just centimeters. Nico Young again had run 13:08.00, the World Athletics Standard.

Nico Young is a young athlete who races like a veteran. Last June, in Oslo, Nico Young set the American outdoor record for the 5,000m, 12:45.27, the second fastest time EVER by an American.

I enjoyed my interview with Nico, we spoke about training, his beginnings in racing, his feelings on training and competing at Northern Arizona University.

Special thanks to Nico Young, adidas and Mark Wetmore. If other agents and managers could do such events, the sport would have many more stories and a larger audience. I am a story-teller. I can only do so much in a mixed zone, and the sport can have so many more fans, we just need to tell the stories!

Please enjoy the interview.

Special thanks to Mike Deering (the Shoe Addicts), who manages the production and editing of our podcasts, video interviews, and audio interviews.
