Conversations with Larry

Talking Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships with Jeff Shaver

Jeff Shaver is a long-time friend, life long runner and keen observer of the sport. I have known Jeff for the

past 35 years.

Jeff Shaver hung with me in Beijing 2008, as he accompanied me as an unoffiicial assistant for the RunningNetwork in the Bejing Olympics.

Jeff and I spent some time chatting on the track & field events and coming up with predictions that are sure to annoy someone. Jeff Shaver is possessed of ascerbic wit, a keen intellect, and an attention to detail that keeps anything he says pretty amusing.

I recall that Jeff ran much of the Beijing marathon course. He was quite impressed with the late Sammy Wanjiru.

Jeff Shaver is a member of the HOKA Aggies. From 1990-1996, this writer held the watch and provided pithy comments for a group who met each Tuesday at Foothill Community College. I have to admit that it was one of my favorite times of my life.

Special thanks to Jeff Shaver!

Jeff Shaver had mentioned that he hoped that the women’s NCAA steeple champion medal in Zurich, that is Doris Lemngole.
