Sifan loves challenges
AMSTERDAM (NED): World and Olympic winner Sifan Hassan loves challenges, in 2025 she competed in 3 marathons. At this level not very usual, 3rd in London, winner in Sydney and 6th in New York. She admits in the marathon, there’s always a challenge. “It’s not a competition against your opponents, but against the distance itself, that’s your biggest rival. My personal best is now 2:13.44 [the third fastest time ever], and I know how hard I trained for it. If I wanted to improve on that, I’d definitely need a year.” And also speaking about the time when she will get tired of marathons: “Then I’ll do, what do you call it, an ultra run. A hundred kilometers or so, to see what it feels like, how far I can get. And not on the road, but on unpaved paths, up and down mountains. I really love that. In the run-up to the New York Marathon, I’ve mainly been trail running.” Writes www.hardloopnieuws.nl.

Sifan’s comment about needing a year to improve her marathon time highlights how much effort and dedication goes into being one of the best. It’s easy to forget just how much goes into reaching those elite times.
