This is Coffee with Larry for Episode 872, April 16, 2026!

Coffee with Larry is our almost daily podcast, from anywhere in the world that we have landed, all about track and field!

Our topics today:

  1. The Boston Marathon is 130 years old!
  2. Over 30,000 marathoners are competing on Monday, April 20, 2026
  3. Looks like cool weather for the marathoners
  4. Jack Fultz won in 1976 in terribly hot conditions. This is the fiftieth anniversary of his win!

The Boston Marathon in 1976 was so hot that race officials implored those along the course to provide water, via their hoses in their yards, for the marathoners, hence the #RacefortheHoses. Jack Fultz ran 2:20:19 in such ungodly weather, which was amazing. At Boston 1978, Jack Fultz would run his lifetime PB of 2:11.17.

  5. Bob Hall, the first Boston Wheelchair champ, passed away this past week. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

50th anniversary of GBTC, back row, Jack Fultz, 1976 Boston champ, Emilie Rodgers, neice of Bill, daughter of Charlie, Dick Mahoney, tenth at 1979 Boston, Bob Hodge, third at 1979 Boston, Amby Burfoot, 1968 Boston champion, Tom Dederian, author of Boston Marathon, Freddie Doyle, tenth on all time GBTC list, Jeff Benjamin, RBR, Gerry Squires, Bill Squires, Jr., Dave McGillvray, Charlie Rodgers, Bob Hall, 1975 wheelchair champ, photo by Jeff Benjamin
  6. Watch for our coverage from the presser on Friday and our visit to the Brooks Hyperion House this weekend!
  7. See you tomorrow on Coffee with Larry!
