A strong cast of continental and global medallists will compete at The Belfast Classic, a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger event, on Saturday, 9 May.

The Belfast Classic is one of at least 10 events that will be streamed live on the European Athletics channels in May 2026.

How to watch:

The Belfast Classic will be streamed live on the European Athletics YouTube channel without any restrictions from 1.10pm CEST (12.10pm local time).

In the US, it is 7:10 AM Eastern, 6:10 AM Central, 5:10 AM Rocky Mountain, and 4:10 AM Pacific)

Live results will be available as well (link to follow)

What to watch:

2025 European indoor 60m champion Jeremiah Azu will be making a rare appearance in the 200m. Azu won the British indoor title at this distance in February in an outright lifetime best of 20.77. He will also be racing with his Welsh teammates in the 4x100m in preparation for the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow this July.

Also fresh from the World Athletics Relays, watch out for European U20 champion Charlotte Henrich in the 400m. The 19-year-old anchored Great Britain to fourth in the women’s 4x400m final with an eye-catching 49.40 anchor leg. The field also includes Henrich’s relay teammate Poppy Malik and Ireland’s Sophie Becker.

The men’s 3000m features another exciting prospect in Sebastian Lörstad from Sweden. Lörstad, who turned 18 last month, ran 28:21 for 10km in February to become the fastest European U20 in history, aside from Jakob Ingebrigtsen. It is not an exaggeration to suggest Lörstad might even get close to the long-standing European U20 3000m record of 7:43.20.

In the women’s 800m, Australia’s Catriona Bisset, who is part of the same training group as Keely Hodgkinson and Georgia Hunter Bell, headlines a strong field which also includes Great Britain’s Abigail Ives, Ireland’s Louise Shanahan, and Belgium’s Vanessa Scaunet.

The best of the Brits will be racing in the men’s 800m with Henry Jonas, Justin Davies, and Callum Dodds, all of whom broke the 1:45 barrier last year, among the standout entrants.

But the highlight of the meeting is likely to be the men’s 1500m, which is highlighted by world 5000m silver medallist Isaac Kimeli. The Belgian faces fellow global medallist Ben Pattison, the 800m bronze medallist at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, and multiple European U23 cross country champion Will Barnicoat.
