Nike Outdoor Nationals 2026: The Boys are ready to take over Hayward Field

Every June, Hayward Field becomes the center of the high school track and field universe. The sport’s biggest stars arrive in Eugene carrying national titles, national records, and championship expectations. This year’s Nike Outdoor Nationals has all of that and more.

The sprint events alone are worth the price of admission. For the first time this season, some of the fastest high school sprinters in the country will line up against one another on the same stage. Jake Odey-Jordan arrives after producing a stunning 9.94 all-conditions performance and adding a Nike Indoor Nationals 200m title to his growing resume. His ability to accelerate through the middle phases of a race has made him one of the most exciting young sprinters in America.

Standing beside him will be Tate Taylor, the defending Nike Outdoor Nationals champion. Taylor has spent the last year proving why he remains one of the most feared names in high school sprinting. His 9.95 all-conditions mark reminds everyone that he is still capable of producing championship performances whenever the pressure rises.

Dillon Mitchell enters Eugene carrying the momentum of his own after claiming the Nike Indoor Nationals 60m crown. His 9.88 all-conditions best shows the kind of speed that can completely change a race in the final meters.

Then there is Blake Hamilton, whose all-conditions high school record of 19.86 in the 200m announced him as one of the fastest quarter-lap runners the prep ranks have ever seen. After finishing runner-up in the 200m at Nike Indoor Nationals, Hamilton enters Hayward Field looking for redemption and another opportunity to show why his name is already part of sprint history.

The story becomes even more compelling once the individual races are complete. These rivals will put aside their personal ambitions and join forces as part of the Nike Elite Program 4x100m relay squad. Fans will have the rare opportunity to watch four of the country’s fastest athletes transition from competitors into teammates as they chase relay glory against some of the best club programs in America.

The hurdles may provide the most historic performance of the weekend. Andrew Jones arrives as one of the most accomplished high school athletes in the nation. The Texas star owns the national record in the 300m hurdles at 34.72 and has run an astonishing 12.97 in the 110m hurdles, the fastest all-conditions performance ever recorded by a high school athlete. His season has already included a remarkable double-double at the Texas state championships, where he captured titles in both hurdle events. Every appearance from Jones carries the possibility of history, and Hayward Field has long been a place where records fall.

In the Distance events, the mile is the focus. Strong fields in the 5,000 meters, but the stars to watch are in the mile: Watch Dylan Rowell, Andrew Beroset, and Abdi Nasar. There will be some new stars that come out of Eugene, so keep your eyes open!
