This will be my daily column on the European Championships. I am watching the European Champs nearly every moment, from Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, via the Eurovision Sports App, which is wonderful coverage! Sign. up for the app, as it is free!

  1. Well done by Eurovision! The daily broadcast is superb! Phil Minishul, Hannah England, Tim Hutchings, and Adam Setleff do a wonderful job: well prepared, with just enough commentary, and superb coverage of each event!
  2. The women’s shot put! Jessica Schilder took gold. She had won by throw 5, but on throw six, the very last throw, Jessica blew it away, with a superb 20.73m throw. The world leader, Jessica, is having a fantastic year. I just remember meeting Jessica in Apeldoorn 2025, where she was worried about competing indoors. What a difference a year makes! Jorinde van Klinken, NED, in silver, and Yemisi Mabry, GER, the Olympic champion, in bronze.
  3. The Men’s shot put. Leonardo Fabbri had told the media at NIKE Pre that he was concerned about his follow-through after his first throw. Prone to analysis, Leonardo does not fool around with his throwing, taking gold in 21.31m. Zane Weir, also from Italy, took silver, and Wictor Petersson, SWE, took the bronze.
  4. The women’s 100 meters. Amy Hunt had taken silver at Tokyo 2025. Her move to Padua, Italy has changed her sprinting and her life, for the better. Amy ran 10.99 for the gold; Ewa Swoboda, POL, took silver, and Delphine Nkansa, BEL, took bronze in a closely fought 100 meters!
  5. The Men’s 5000 meters. Jakob Ingebrigtsen wins his fourth EAC at 5,000 meters, his twenty-second title overall. Jakob, having not raced for 324 days due to a long-building Achilles issue, had surgery in the US in January and had six weeks of training prior to the race. Using his experience, Jakob ran through the finish, not seizing gold until the last 20 meters. Jimmy Gressier missed a medal, and Florian Bremm, GER, took silver, and Etienne Daguinos, FRA, took the bronze.
  6. The Mixed Relay. A hit from the first time it was run, Norway took its second gold of the premier night in EAC, with Team GBR in silver and the Netherlands in bronze. Norway had Karsten Warholm and Henrietta Jaeger, and the Netherlands had Lieke Klaver, but no Femke Broeders-Bol.
