Editor’s note: Thanks to the Eurovision Sports App, your editor is covering the EAC remotely from Wisconsin with the helpful comments of Stuart Weir, who is in the stadium. Stuart sends me photos most mornings by WhatsApp and keeps in touch on breaking issues. I am viewing AM sessions around 4:30 Central US time in morning.

  1. Each session gets better. The TV coverage is, again, superb. We see all of the heats, rounds and with expert field and track commentary provided by Hannah England, Tim Hutchings, Phil Minishul and Adam Setleff. The amount of info provided is amazing, and the viewing of the throws especially is appreciated.
  2. The Men’s Long Jump: Miltiadias Tentoglou takes gold number four in the EAC with an 8.44m jump. Simon Ehammer, who had a 8.61m jumper earlier this season, took silver and Bozhidar Saraboyukov, BUL, was bronze. Mattia Furlani made a jump, limped out, and withdrew in the qualifying. Tentoglou did not give up; he wanted that gold, and he took it.
  3. The Men’s hammer throw. Bence Halasz, HUN, took the European title with the tenth-best throw in history, 84.25m. The Hungarian continues to impress and build a resume. Merlin Hummel, GER, 81.30m, took the silver, and Mykhaylo Kokham, UKR, took bronze in 79.49m.
  4. The Women’s 5000 meters. Nadia Battocletti has had a challenging year. A fine indoor season, with gold at the 3,000m, then Nadia was injured, with 8-10 weeks of training prior to Birmingham. She gave the field several times that they could have charged away and kept Battocletti out of the medals. Nadia joins Marta Dominguez as the only other European athlete to defend a women’s 5000m title at EAC. Nadia won in 15:37.84, with Marta Garcia, ESP, silver in 15:39.98, and Micol Majori, Italy, in 15:40.65 for bronze!
  5. The Women’s 100m hurdles. Nadine Visser takes the gold with a time of 12.67, her first EAC title! Pia Skyrzszowka, POL, is in silver, also in 12.67, by a hundredth, and Laeticia Bapte, FRA, 12.73. Ditaji Kambundji was fourth, in a big surprise.
  6. The Men’s 100 meters. Team GB wins both 100m titles! The race was close for the first 60 meters, then it all changed. Marcell Jacobs, Olympic champ and European champion, pulled up with a hamstring issue. Romell Glave, GB, took his moment and ran 10.09 for the gold. Jeremiah Azu, GB, former World and Euro indoor champ, took silver in 10.16, and Owen Ansah, GER, took the bronze in 10.19! A great way to end the night on day 2!
