CHORZÓW (POL, Aug 23): The penultimate Diamond League meeting before the Finals featured two world leads, one Diamond League record by Mykolas Alekna (72.58), and six more meeting records, including two from yesterday and one equaled in the women’s high jump. Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Oblique Seville won stacked 100m races, and Alison Dos Santos defeated Karsten Warholm in the 400m hurdles. Three athletes achieved their debut DL wins, and 38,700 visitors at Slaski Stadium were also delighted by a new Polish record set by Klaudia Kazimierska. The last DL meeting before the Finals is the Weltklasse Zürich on Thursday 27 August.Short event-by-event reviews

Women

100m: World champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden defeated Olympic champion Julien Alfred – 10.78 (0.6) to 10.83. Sha’Carri Richardson was a distant third in 10.96 with home favorite Ewa Swoboda in fifth in 11.00.

300m (non-DL): World indoor 400m champion Lurdes Gloria Manuel won the seldom-contested distance in Czech all-time best of 35.76 ahead of British youngster Charlotte Henrich in 35.92. The top six all set PBs.

400m: Excellent race in terms of depth with seven women breaking 50 seconds. Marileidy Paulino powered to victory in 48.87, her sixth sub-49-second performance in 2026, to win by over half a second from Nickisha Pryce (49.49) and Salwa Eid Naser (49.57), with Natalia Bukowiecka fourth in 49.60.

1500m: In her first season in the event, Ethiopia’s Tsige Duguma kicked to a world lead of 3:55.06 ahead of Australia’s Jess Hull (3:55.20) and Kenya’s Dorcus Ewoi (3:55.58), with Klaudia Kazimierska fourth in a big Polish record and European lead of 3:55.59. In total, the top nine all broke the 3:58 barrier and the top 16 sub-4:00.

5000m: Nadia Battocletti took her first-ever Diamond League victory, producing a 58.69 last lap to win in 14:54.09 ahead of Ethiopia’s Freweyni Hailu (14:54.62) and Australia’s Rose Davies (14:55.39). The top-16 all broke 15 minutes.

100m hurdles (non-DL): Alaysha Johnson took the victory in 12.52 (0.2) ahead of Megan Simmonds (12.62) and 2022 European champion Pia Skrzyszowska (12.64).

High jump: Ukrainian 1-2 for Yaroslava Mahuchikh who cleared 2.00m to equal her meeting record and beat Iryna Gerashchenko (1.98m, her best since giving birth) with Australia’s Eleanor Patterson third on countback at 1.98m.

Triple jump: First-ever Diamond League win and first-ever 15-meter-plus jump for Senegal’s Saly Sarr, who won with a 15.08m (0.1) NR ahead of Cubans Leyanis Perez Hernandez (14.91m/-0.2) and Davisleydi Valezsco (14.84m) and Olympic champion Thea Lafond (14.58m)

Hammer (non-DL): Olympic and world champion Camryn Rogers took the victory with 77.09m over 2019 world champion DeAnna Price with 75.23m.

Men

100m: For the first time in history, all nine finalists broke the 10-second barrier, with world champion Oblique Seville winning in a meeting record of 9.83 (1.4) over Kenny Bednarek (9.87) and Christian Coleman (9.93).

400m: World champion Collen Kebinatshipi ran 44.00 or faster for the fifth time in 2026, taking the victory in a meeting record of 43.59 with world 400m hurdles champion Rai Benjamin breaking the 44-second barrier for the first time with 43.83 to finish second.

1500m: Ethan Strand took a surprise win in 3:30.77 ahead of Kenyan youngster Phanuel Koech in 3:31.14. Olympic champion Cole Hocker finished quickly for third in 3:31.16, with Jakob Ingebrigtsen finishing fourth in 3:31.19 in his first 1500m of the season.

3000m steeplechase: One of the shocks of the meeting, with Ethiopia’s Gemechu Godana winning his first ever DL trophy, comprehensively beating Soufiane El Bakkali on the last lap, meeting record of 8:02.74 PB to 8:04.61. El Bakkali’s teammate Salah Eddine Ben Yazide was a close third in 8:05.08 PB with Luxembourg’s Ruben Querinjean fourth in a big NR of 8:05.36.

110m hurdles: After a DNF in Lausanne, world record-holder Ja’Kobe Tharp returned to winning ways with a 13.05 (-0.7) clocking, leading a US 1-2-3-4 ahead of Trey Cunningham (13.08), Jamal Britt (13.09) and Cordell Tinch (13.22).

400m hurdles: Alison dos Santos improved his world lead to 46.43, but he was pushed all the way by world record-holder Karsten Warholm, who set a season’s best and European lead of 46.52. Dos Santos’ Brazilian teammate Matheus Lima was third in a 47.26 PB.

Pole vault (non-DL): Mondo Duplantis decided at 610cm and confirmed his another victory at 620, before failing once at 632 and retiring. Sondre Guttormsen and Emmanouil Karalis were joint second (600), Karalis passed 2 heights and tried straight at 620.

Shot put (non-DL): Leonardo Fabbri broke the 22-meter barrier for the 10th time this season with 22.08m for victory over a strong US contingent including Jordan Geist (21.96m), Joe Kovacs (21.86m) and Payton Otterdahl (21.80m).

Discus: World record-holder Mykolas Alekna produced an excellent season with four throws over 71 meters, which was topped by a Diamond League record of 72.58m in the fifth round. European champion Kristjan Ceh (68.93m) and world champion Daniel Stahl (68.25m) were second and third respectively.

Hammer (non-DL): Olympic and world champion Ethan Katzberg won with 82.92m ahead of Merlin Hummel (81.25). Recently crowned European champion and world leader Bence Halasz had to settle for third with 79.44m
