EUGENE (USA, Aug 5): The World U20 Championships first session brought fast 100 m boys times in the first round by Tate Taylor 10.05 (0.0) and Gary Card 10.07 (+0.3). Jamaican Theianna-Lee Terrelonge was fastest in girls heats with 11.21 (+1.2).

Team USA was the best in mixed 4×400 m heats with 3:18.26 and will be attacking the all-time U20 best in the finals. The best mark in qualifications in boys hammer was Chen Jiawei, who got the World U20 lead and national junior record 80.39 (previous PB 77.50).

Sweden´s Ella Malm topped long jump qualification 636 PB (+0.8), list leader Jan-Hendrik Heymans from South Africa was the best in boys javelin qualification 76.02, Greek Anastasios Papadopoulos in boys shot put qualification 19.82. Thea Brown from Britain leads the heptathlon after two events with 2043 points. She was the best in 100 m hurdles 13.23 and second best in high jump 178. Ugandan Shafeck Murungi clocked PB 1:46.64 to be the fastest in the boys’ 800 m first round; among the girls, Japanese Rin Kubo clocked 2:03.27.
