On an individual level, the standout performers were 17-year-old Lin Yi of China, who threw 71.04 m to win the javelin gold, and Rumesh Pathirage in the men’s javelin, both of whom have dominated the world in top-flight Diamond League events.

From the Indian athletics point of view, the humble Army man Gulveer has already claimed 2 silver medals and hopes to add a third today. Along with Gulveer, the individual outstanding achievement would be ranked Vithya Ramraj breaking Usha’s 42-year-old record silver in 4 x 400 mixed and hopefully a third in 4 x 400 m women today.

Parul’s two bronzes, with a national record; Sawan Barwal’s marathon national record and silver; Seema’s personal best 59.88 in the women’s discus; and a first-ever medal in the pole vault by Brianca Elangovan definitely stole the show.
All in all asian athletics standards are definitely on the rise
