Jeff Benjamin’s Book Review 2025
Book # 1
“Always Speeding – Memoirs Of The World’s Fastest Human”
By Steve Williams
If one were to just read Steve William’s “Always Speeding” you’d think the author was of the Marathon distance running mold.

Quite the very opposite!

Williams, one of the premiere World-Class sprinters who dedicated himself into a training methodology which the great Jesse Owens once described as, “A lifetime of training for just ten seconds!”, definitely died not sprint through his rich autobiography. But, showing the mindset of a marathoner, the former world record holder at the 100 and 200 writes very patiently about his growth from a New York City kid into
one of the world’s fastest men.

But it is not without challenges, notably from those running the Sport during the 1970’s and 1980’s who seemed to throw obstacles at Williams that figuratively led him to hurdle through the walls put out in front of him.
Always Speeding, by Steve Williams, found on Amazon!

Williams however did not passively go through these obstacles – pulling no punches he literally smashed through!

A fascinating story as well as inspiring, one can only imagine how much better Williams could have been if not dealing with the Sport’s coaches and bureaucrats during the immensely hypocritical amateur era.

Recently Sha’Carri Richardson and other current track stars spoke out about unionization and greater financial support for athletes. Steve Williams’ book should not only be a primer guide for them to read about but Williams himself should be reached out to.

If you can catch him!
