Six Takeaways on Noah Lyles

For transparency sake, I have not seen Noah in Eugene, but, I will and so will 12,000 other track fans. Here is what I can tell you about Mr. Lyles prior to his racing in Eugene.

  1. Noah will do one round of the 100 meters. His racing and training are all about being ready for the big ones. He has a bye in the 100m and 200m as he is double winner from Budapest 2023. Watch him in that first round in the 100 meters, or you will miss him. (His management team confirmed his one round appearance in the 100 meters.)
  2. Noah will compete in all the rounds of the 200 meters, as long as he stays healthy. Noah loves to compete. Noah loves to race in Eugene. But the 200 meters, or the furlong (just longer than 200 meters, but give it to me) is owned by Mr. Noah Lyles, in his eyes.
  3. The Road To Tokyo is long and treacherous. Noah Lyles wants to make history. Noah is elite athlete who can deliver, and entertainer. He thrives on the acclaim and love of his fans. He also likes a bit of controversy, as he knows it is good for the sport and his brand, adidas, who has extended his contract through 2028.
  4. The 100 meters is at an exciting level in 2025. Kishane Thompson, Oblique Seville, Akani Simbine, Kenny Bednarek, among others. Noah Lyles has had one 100 meters this season, a second in 10.00. That is his fastest opener for a season, ever (from his mouth).
  5. Noah Lyles and his coach, Lance Brauman, have a coaching / athlete relationship that is both nuanced and amazing to appreciate. I have observed them in workouts and it is a work of art. Coach B communicates with Lyles in a minimal amount of words, slight facial expressions and light comments that express much. It works for them.
  6. Watch Noah Lyles this weekend. NBC is kind of making it hard to see events, but you should be able to see the 200 meters. Hopefully, they will show the 100m heats, but who knows?
  7.  Here’s our big interview!
