The Tokyo World Championships were held at the Japanese National Stadium from September 13 to 21, 2025, in warm and humid conditions. The exceptional performances were greeted by an impressive crowd, averaging 56-58,000 fans a night and 17-20,000 fans during the day. This was the first global sports event in Japan after the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, which did not allow fans into the Japan Olympic Stadium.

Canada takes five medals in Tokyo 2025
Ethan Katzberg, the king of the hammer throw, won the Tokyo 2025 World Championships with a world-leading throw of 84.70 meters. Ethan’s throw of 84.70 meters/ 277 feet, 10.64 inches, is the Meet record and Canadian record.
Silver was Merlin Hummel, GER, 82.77m PB, and bronze was Bence Halacz, HUN, in 82.69m!

Evan Dunfee, CAN, took the gold in the Men’s 35 kilometer race walk on the first day of the championships. In hot, humid conditions, Evan’s legs cramped over the last two kilometers, walking 2:28:22. Caio Bonfim, BRA, took the silver in 2:28:55. In third, Hayato Katsuki, JPN, gave the home country its first medal of the championships, in 2:29:16 with the bronze medal!

Camryn Rogers took the gold in the women’s hammer throw, with a world-leading throw of 80.51 meters. Zhao Jie, CHN, took the silver in 77.60m PB, and Zhang Jie, CHN, who took bronze in 77.10 meters.

Canada took the silver in the Men’s 4×100 meters, in 37.55 with the USA in gold in 37.29 and the Netherlands in 37.81m. The Canadian team consisted of Aaron Brown, Jerome Blake, Brendon Rodney, and Andre De Grasse.

Marco Arop took the bronze in the Men’s 800 meters in Tokyo!
Emmanuel Wanyonyi, KEN, took the gold in 1:41.86, with Djamel Sedjati, ALG, taking the silver in 1:41.90. Marco Arop took the bronze in 1:41.95. Marco Arop gave it his all to win this race, and he challenged Emmanuel Wanyonyi, but the Olympic champion was just a little bit faster on the day.
