1. Kenya sweeps in top three for Elite Men and Elite Women.
2. Benson Kiptuto won the mens by .12 of a second over Alexander Mutiso, both in 2:08.09. Alexander Korir ran 2:08:57 for third. All three runners are marathon specialists from Kenya, running for adidas.

3. Joel Reichow, competing for MDRA under coach Chris Lundstrom, ran 2:09:56, a 40-second PB to take sixth as the first American!
4. Joe Klecker, known for his 10,000m and 5,000m racing, ran a 2:10:37 for a fine debut in NYC at the marathon distance. His parents, Barney Klecker and Janice Klecker were U.S. distance runners, and his mom, Janice, made the Olympic team in 1992. Joe’s wife, Sage Hurta Klecker just ran #3 all time for women’s 800 meters in Tokyo!

5. Hellen Obiri, On Running, of Kenya, led a sweep on the Women’s NYC in 2:19:51 for the CR. Sharon Lokedi, Underarmour, who also has won Boston and NYC like Hellen, ran 2:20:07 for the silver, and Sheila Chepkirui , adidas, ran 2:20:34.

6. First American was Fiona O’Keefe, PUMA, who had won the Olympic Trials in the marathon in 2024. This is only her second completed marathon, run in 2:22:49, best time EVER for American women! on this course!

7. Sifan Hassan, in sixth, has had a busy year. The NIKE athlete is a key influencer with young women around the world. Sifan has won the London and Sydney WMM, plus the Paris Olympic marathon.
8. Eliud Kipchoge, NIKE, has won 11 Marathon majors, Olympic medals (two in 5,000), and two Olympic marathon golds. Eliud finished 17th in 2:14:36 yesterday, at age 42. We do not believe that he will race WMM again!

9. Congrats to Emily Sisson, New Balance, who ran 2:25:05 for 8th in the marathon, her debut at NYC (she has the AR of 2:18:29 from Chicago!).

10. Amanda Vestri , Brooks, ran 2:25:40, breaking the debut record in NYC of Kara Goucher! Great run!

Larry Eder has had a 52-year involvement in the sport of athletics. Larry has experienced the sport as an athlete, coach, magazine publisher, and now, journalist and blogger. His first article, on Don Bowden, America's first sub-4 minute miler, was published in RW in 1983. Larry has published several magazines on athletics, from American Athletics to the U.S. version of Spikes magazine. He currently manages the content and marketing development of the RunningNetwork, The Shoe Addicts, and RunBlogRun. Of RunBlogRun, his daily pilgrimage with the sport, Larry says: "I have to admit, I love traveling to far away meets, writing about the sport I love, and the athletes I respect, for my readers at runblogrun.com, the most of anything I have ever done, except, maybe running itself."
