ZÜRICH (SUI, Aug 27): Two world records in 40 minutes crowned an unforgettable evening at the Weltklasse Zürich Diamond League: Alison Dos Santos 45.80 in the 400m hurdles, and Masai Russell 12.09 in the 100m hurdles. Sold-out Letzigrund watched also a new DL record and home win of Audrey Werro in the 800m (1:53.70), three more meeting records by Anna Cockrell (52.13), Parker Wolfe (7:23.43), and by Armand Duplantis (625) after an exciting duel with Emmanouil Karalis for the world record, and two more world leads by Kenny Bednarek (19.62) and Emmanuel Wanyonyi (1:41.76). 100m (Diamond Plus) – Thrilling sprint final with Julien Alfred winning in a NR by 0.005sec. over Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, both timed at 10.70 (-0.7).200m (non-DL) – Fabienne Hoenke in 22.53 (-0.6) over Torrie Lewis (22.66).800m (D+) – Another fast race by Audrey Werro, who won in a new Diamond League record and world lead of 1:53.70, also NR, ahead of Femke Broeders-Bol (1:54.71 NR) and Georgia Hunter Bell (1:55.03 SB).
1500m (non-DL) – Ludovica Cavalli won in 4:03.27 from Heather Maclean (4:03.57).
3000m steeplechase – Kenyan 1-2 by Faith Cherotich in 8:55.82 over Doris Lemngole (8:55.94 PB).
100m hurdles (D+) – Masai Russell did it; she set a new world record clocking 12.09 (0.0) and winning from previous best holder Tobi Amusan (12.23 SB) and Nadine Visser (12.34 SB).
400m hurdles – Anna Cockrell in 52.13 MR/WL over Dalilah Muhammad (53.16 SB), fourth Fatoumata Diallo (53.30 NR), Emma Zapletalová sixth (54.07) after stumbling at ninth hurdle.
High jump (D+) – Nicola Olyslagers in a season best of 202 ahead of Iryna Gerashchenko (200 =PB), Marija Vukovic (198 =NR) and Yaroslava Mahuchikh (196).
Men
200m (D+) – Kenny Bednarek clocked a new world lead of 19.62 (-0.4), clearly over Sinesipho Dambile (19.82).
400m (non-DL) – World finalist Yuki Joseph Nakajima clocked 44.62 to win ahead of Edoardo Scotti (44.70), season bests for both.
800m (non-DL) – Emmanuel Wanyonyi won in a world lead of 1:41.76 closely over Djamel Sedjati (1:41.83 SB). Pacing was at WR level.
1500m (D+) – Cole Hocker won the 1500m after a fast finish in 3:31.71 over Phanuel Koech (3:31.84), Jakob Ingebrigtsen fifth (3:32.16).
3000m – Parker Wolfe in 7:27.43 MR/PB ahead of Graham Blanks (7:27.92 PB).
110m hurdles (non-DL) – Home soil victory for Jason Joseph in a season best of 13.11 (-0.2) over Trey Cunningham (13.19).
400m hurdles (D+) – Unbelievable race by Alison Dos Santos, who improved Karsten Warholm’s world record by 0.14sec. to 45.80; Warholm finished second (46.69), Matic Ian Guček sixth (47.80 NR).
Long jump (D+) – Miltiadis Tentoglou leaped to 845 (0.4) in the fourth series, over Tajay Gayle 843 (-0.3), season best.
Pole vault (non-DL) – Sensational duel of Armand Duplantis (625 MR/outdoor WL) and Emmanouil Karalis (620 NR and best ever mark for second place), both then tried at 632. After 40+ years, two athletes attacked the PV World record in one competition.
Shot put – Jordan Geist with 22.53 PB ahead of Rajindra Campbell (22.22).
Javelin – Rumesh Pathirage with 92.07 in the final series over Anderson Peters (86.93 SB).
