Abbey D’Agostino may be the most positive person I have ever met. She takes in life and she enjoys the new experiences that her status as an elite athlete provides her.

Abbey is a fine runner. She is also a fine person. In a few short seconds, in Rio, in a collision in the 5000 meter heats, Abbey D’Agostino showed the world what the Olympic ideal truly means. The video of her fall, and her subsequent return to the race fills the viewer with emotion and pride. In this time of post-truths (Merriam-Webster added that word in 2016), in a time when there is much cynicism in sports, Abbey D’Agostino reminded us that races are challenging oneselve and your fellow competitors, and at the end of the race, sharing that experience.

This interview was done with Abbey D’Agostino at the 2017 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. We wish Abbey much success in 2017 as she recovers from her fall in Rio. She has many great races to run.

Thanks to Abbey D’Agostino for her honesty and enjoyment of the sport. Thanks to The Shoe Addicts for chronicling our sport.
