Galen Rupp, the 2016 Rio Olympic bronze medalist, has been quietly building towards the 2017 Boston marathon. He pulled out of the Houston Half marathon on January 15, citing, plantar fasciatis issues. In comments to the media, Galen noted that he recovered fast from the injury and was running within two weeks.

In the Sportissimo Prague Half marathon earlier this morning, Galen finished 11th in the half marathon, won by Tamirat Tola, Ethiopa, in a PB of 59:37. He told David Monti of Race Results Weekly, that he had some foot discomfort during the race. Galen also noted that he hoped it did not affect his upcoming Boston Marathon.

Fans should note, that as part of the Nike Oregon Project, Galen Rupp will have all of the rehab technology available to him. If he pulls out of Boston, there will be a reason, if he races, it is because Alberto Salazar and Galen Rupp are convinced that Galen is ready to roll.

The Boston Marathon is a challenging course that has taken many athletes down the early miles and chewed them up between 15 and 20 miles, and spit them out after that. Bill Rodgers, 4 time winner of Boston once told me that his best races in Boston were the ones where he felt bad up until 15-16 miles.

The Boston Marathon will happen on April 18, 2017. Watch for our live updates from www.runblogrun.com over the eight hours of the race.

We hope that Galen Rupp recovers fast and runs well at the Boston Marathon.
