Korir vs Feleke
FRANKFURT (GER): Reigning champion Mark Korir from Kenya (2:05:49 PB) will face Ethiopia’s Getu Feleke (2:04:50 PB) in the Frankfurt Marathon on Sunday, informs organisers. “I have trained well and I hope to break my personal best on Sunday. Maybe even a 2:04 time is possible,” said Korir. Other top entrants on the men’s race include Kenya’s Martin Kosgey (2:07:22 PB), Ethiopians Shure Kitata (2:07:28 PB) and Kelkile Gezahegn (2:07:29 PB) and Poland’s Henryk Szost (2:07:39 PB). German record-holder Arne Gabius (2:08:33 PB) also competes and he is aiming to break the 2:10-barrier on his comeback from injury. The top entrant in the women’s race is Olympic 5000m champion Vivian Cheruiyot (2:23:50 PB) but she is only the sixth fastest on paper in the line-up which is headed by Ethiopians Feyse Tadese (2:20:27 PB) and Yebrgual Melese (2:22:51 PB).
OTHER FRANKURT NEWS
FRANKFURT (GER): Vivian Cheruiyot has admitted she was hoping to run in the Chicago Marathon earlier this month but was “not included in the final list,” informs the Daily Nation. “I have done good training and I’m going to run my own race,” she said. Cheruiyot is aiming to pass through halfway in 70:00 and run the second half in 69/70 minutes which would break the course record of 2:21:01.
FRANKFURT (GER): American marathon-runner Sara Hall is looking to take a big chunk off her marathon lifetime best of 2:28:26set in the Tokyo Marathon in February, informs organisers. “It is my goal to lower my personal best. My aim is to go for 2:25,” she said. Hall set a half marathon PB of 69:37 in Copenhagen last month.
FRANKFURT (GER): After dropping out of the Berlin Marathon last month, Italy’s Anna Incerti will return to action in the Frankfurt Marathon, informs FIDAL.
FRANKFURT (GER): Just before his big marathon on Sunday German number one Arne Gabius became a father. Frederik Bosse Gabius was born on Thursday. Informs hessenschau.de.
FRANKFURT (GER): The European Running Businesss Conference went underway on Friday here with EA President Svein Arne Hansen having the opening speech. Hansen said he wants to devote the second part of his presidency more to runners and running movement. Also speaking RunCzech head Carlo Capalbo and CEO of Golazo Bob Verbeeck.
