Saucony Running, a division of Stride Rite, sponsored the Summer XC Training Program, an individualized summer training program for high school, college and club cross country runners, as part of the marketing plan to promote the new Shay XC. They also dedicated the sponsorship of the cross country program to the memory of the late Ryan Shay…..

Saucony works with Shooting Star Media, Inc. to promote the Saucony XC Training Program, and promotes shoe dedicated to the late Ryan Shay.
Saucony, in cooperation with American Track & Field, Athletes Only and California Track & Running News, developed a summer training program for high school, college and club runners, to prepare the athletes for the rigors of the Fall cross country season.
The program was distributed in middle of June to coincide with the resumption of summer training at the end of June for most cross country runners. The insert appears in the Resource Guide issue of American Track & Field, the Summer issue of Athletes Only and the July/August issue of California Track & Running News.
Besides inserting 205,000 six page inserts in the three publications noted above, Saucony is also running the Training program online at www.atf-athlete.com, Saucony hopes to encourage athletes to train smarter for the fall season. But there is another part of the venture: dedicating a new cross country racing shoe, the Shay XC, to the memory of the late Ryan Shay, one of Saucony’s elite runners, who died so tragically in November 2007.
Mary O’Brien, the Vice President of Marketing, had this to say, ““Ryan Shay was a passionate and dedicated runner, living at the highest level, both as an athlete and as a person. He inspired the Saucony team, challenging us to always do our best, whether out on a run or designing running shoes. Ryan especially embodied the intensity and grittiness of cross country running, and we hope our summer cross country training program has inspired high school and college runners everywhere to get out and enjoy what Ryan loved most.”
The training program, developed by the staff of American Track & Field, is geared to the high school, college and club runner. ” If you can run 40 minutes, you can develop with our program, ” noted Group Publisher Larry Eder, a former high school, college and club cross country and track coach. Eder added, “The workouts were developed to build endurance and speed over the summer, and also to build confidence in the young runner.”
Shooting Star Media, Inc. publishers of American Track & Field, Athletes Only and California Track & Running news have offered free copies to any coaches or athletes who request a copy, while supplies last. “We have overprinted 5,000 additional copies and Saucony running stores will also have limited supplies of the training insert, ” noted Larry Eder. Mr. Eder also suggested that requesting copies from the website through the Contact us at www.american-trackandfield.com is the smartest way to receive a copy.
