Day Three in Berlin was warm, and the competition was even hotter. We broke the podcast into two sections, discussing three events on each podcast. On part one we discussed the following:
1. The Men’s 400 meter hurdles-Karston Warholm, after five Diamond League races where he took second, dominated the European Champs, with, perhaps, his finest race of the season, winning in 47.64, a European U23 record.
2. The Men’s Javelin-Thomas Rohler dominated this event, won here, with a 89 plus meter throw. Taking second for Germany was Andreas Hoffman, with Kirt Mangus of Estonia, fresho off his NR, taking the bronze.
3. Day one of the hepathlon ended with a fine battle from Katerina Johnson-Thompson and Nafissatou Thiam. KJT showed a new confidence in staying in the mental game and Nafissatou Thiam played the role of the Zen master, knowing that her second day was strong and that having a close competition was great for both stars.
4. In the 200 meters, Ramil Guliyiev took the win in a brilliant 19.76. His turn continues to improve as Nathaneel Mitchell-Blake battled Alex Wilson, both timed in 20.04, with Mitchell-Blake using a well timed last fifty meters to get the nod in the silver position.
