Fastest man in the west: Zharnel Hughes
Fastest woman in the west: Dina Asher-Smith
Best brothers: The Borlées of Belgium, three-quarters of the Belgian gold-medal winning men’s 4 by 400m team. Three Ingebrigsten brothers in the 1500m wasn’t bad either.
Best Tweet: The best distance runners in Europe are running scared of a 17 year old.
Best Caption: (Photo of Jakob and Henrik Ingebrigsten) The moment when your younger brother runs away from you.
Most exciting race: Men’s 1500m, any of 10 athletes could have won.
Best atmosphere in the stadium: Men’s javelin and 1-2 for Germany.
Worst Scheduling: Women’s 400m individual and women’s 4 by 400m relay on same evening.
Second worst scheduling: Making it impossible for men to double up in 800/1500 or women in the 1500/5000.
Biggest mystery: Why were there morning sessions Tuesday to Friday when everyone was at work – but none at the weekend.
King and queen: Arthur Abele and Nafi Thiam, winners of the decathlon and heptathlon. They each had a crown to prove it.
Most exciting ending: Women’s long jump the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places changed three times in the last10 jumps.
Sportsmanship award: shared between long-jumper Jazmin Sawyers who went immediately to hug Maryna Bekh, who had just knocked her out of the medals and Nataliya Pryshchepa who went to pick up Renee Eykens who had fallen in their 800m prelim..
The worst moment of the championship: Running out of coffee cups in the media center.
Goodbye: To Robert Harting in his final championship, sadly he had to reason to rip this shirt this year.
The innovation that should be scrapped: Giving the top 12 a bye to the semi-finals in some events. Unfair, indefensible and deprives spectators of seeing best athletes.
If you’re good enough you are old enough: Jakob Ingebrigsten, 17 years old and a double gold-medallist who presumably needed a parental signature on his entry form!
The have been here before award: Sandra Perkovic, winner of the Euopean Championship discus title for the fifth time.
Most bizarre moment: Chemtai Salpeter stopped with a lap to go in the 5000m, thinking the race was over.
