The European Championships came to a close on Day Six. The orchestration of a great track meet is complex. One should, it is said, put the biggest events at the every end of the night, so that the fans leave wanting to come back for another day. The last day of finals were exciting, full of drama, full of celebrations, full of sorrow. In this podcast, part 3 of 4, we have Sifan Hassan fly by Eilish McColgran, who kept the pace honest for over eight laps, and then, when Lornah Chemutai Salpter misjudged laps, flew threw a final lap that no one in the field could have battled, running a new CR of 14:46.12. Eilish McColgran, daughter of Liz McColgan Nuttall, (1988 Olympic silver medalist and 1991 World Champion over 10,000m). Eilish noted that her Mum had noted that Eilish was very fit and should bust it open a bit, keeping the pace fast and insuring a strong race. McColgan did just that, and earned the silver medal.
In the steeplechase, Gesa-Felicitas Krause took the lead over the last lap and put three seconds between herself and the silver medalist. Krause took the win in 9:19.80. Berlino the mascot of Berlin was there, to welcome Gesa-Felicitas to the finish line. And the celebration began.
