Konstanze Klosterhalfen dominates 5000m in German Champs in solo 14:26.76!

Konstanze Klosterhalfen has had some fine performances. This 5000m at the German championships, with an amazing crowd, saw Konstanze Klosterhalfen run 14:26.76, lapping all but second place. A masterful performance puts Konstanze in fine shape just two months from Doha!

BERLIN (GER, Aug 3): Konstanze Klosterhalfen produced an incredible solo effort to win the 5000m at the German Championships in 14:26.76 (8:44.49 at 3000m) to smash Irina Mikitenko’s national record of 14:42.03 and move to fourth on the European all-time list (also fourth 2019). Alina Reh was a distant second in 15:19.42 with Miriam Dattke third in 15:41.81. Tatjana Pinto also won a good quality 100m final in 11.09 (+0.1, also 11.14 in heats) ahead of Gina Luckenkemper (11.20) with European long jump champion Malaika Mihambo equalling her PB of 11.21 to finish third just edging Lisa-Marie Kwayie 11.22 PB. European javelin champion Christin Hussong went out to 65.33m for the victory, Martin Wierig won the discus with 65.39m with Olympic champion Christoph Harting producing three no-throws, just as he did at the European Championships and Simon Bayer won the shot put with a 20.26m PB ahead of Tobias Dahm (19.87m) and David Storl (19.77m) who has made a late start to his summer campaign. Other field event highlights included Lisa Ryzih clearing 4.60m in the pole vault, former European indoor champion Kristin Gierisch winning the triple jump with 14.26 (-0.1) and Fabian Heinle winning the long jump with 8.05 (+0.4). Elsewhere on the track, Cindy Roleder won the 100m hurdles in 12.90 (+0.5), Gregor Traber won the 110m hurdles in 13.68 (+1.5), Michael Pohl won the 100m in 10.27 (+0.3, 10.24 in heats) from Kevin Kranz (10.29) and Julian Reus (10.30, 10.27 in heats) and Karl Bebendorf won the 3000m steeplechase in a 8:33.59 PB. Marie-Laurence Jungfleisch was the best in high jump 190. First day was followed by 26 200 spectators.
