This is, I must admit, my favorite columnn of each event. What will Stuart come up with next? Loved his awards. I have to admit that I am adding one, Best Improvisational move. Goes to Steve Mills, who found a unique way to sit on the diminutive seats assigned to Media. Please see below:

The European Team Championships: The good, the bad and the ugly

Most appropriate winner: Piotr Lisek (Pole-vault) – he is a Pole after all.

Embarrassment of the year: Team GB listing a shot putter with a slightly similar name instead of a well-known 400m runner in the relay team and being DQed

Modern medicine?: After finishing second in the 800, Jamie Webb was feeling worse for wear. He said: “They wanted to take me to hospital but I said, ‘I’m old-school, let me throw up and I’ll be fine'”. He did and he was!

Far too much energy: Jodie Wiiliams came second in the 200m, did interviews, posed for selfies and an hour later ran a fast leg of the 4 by 400 relay, again finishing second.

Double but not triple: Erika Kinsey did the high-jump and the long-jump for Sweden – what has she against the triple-jump?

A ringer in the German team? Richard Ringer was fifth in the 3000m (Ringer in colloquial British English means an ineligible participant)

Happy Birthday: Polish Athletics is 100 years old and looks in rude health.

Legend remembered: Irena Szewińska, who died last year, celebrated in a picture exhibition in the media center.

Most unwanted visitor: The wind. So many brilliant jumps wiped out as over legal limit, So many great runs into a minus 2.5 wind made to look slow.

Most impressive tattoo: Piotr Lisek, it is in Latin “Alea lacta est”. (The die is cast). I am sure it intimidates all his Latin speaking opponents.

To B or not to B: There was a mixed relay B race but no A race! (It was not a point scoring race so of course GB won it!)

Claim to fame?: Damian Czykier is probably the only son of a Polish professional footballer who has won a hurdles race in the Manchester City Games
