Huge 22.91 for Crouser, also 483 for Nageotte
MARIETTA (USA, Jul 18): What a superb shot putting by 2016 Olympic winner Ryan Crouser. The American Track League series #2 suffered delays due to thunderstorms but the top two names kept focused and came up big when the rain delays were lifted. Crouser started with 22.15m on first and 22.24 in the 3rd round. Then in the 5th round attempt of 22.73m before unleashing a massive throw of 22.91m on his final throw. This mark is a personal best by 1cm and equals the longest throw in the world for over 30 years. There are actually only 3 results better (23+) in the history. World record 23.12 by Randy Barnes in 1990, also 23.10 the same year of Barnes and European record 23.06 by Ulf Timmermann in 1988. Katie Nageotte also cleared her 2nd world leading mark of the week, eclipsing her co-World lead of 4.81m from Wednesday with an outdoor personal best of 4.83m. She then put the bar up at 4.92m and on 2nd attempt barely brushed the bar off with her thigh. Daniel Haugh got 76.22 in hammer.
