My senior year at Bellarmine, the league meet was held at Crystal Springs. Bellarmine in the fall of 1975 had a pretty good team, not spectacular. But, we had raced the course often, and Mr. Muth had driven us up to Belmont to work out a few times as well as racing on it 4-5 times in the season. Pete Dolan, Chris Schenone and Bob Lucas lead the team. Dave Hughes and I were 4th and 5th, I believe.

We watched Mitch Kingery run 14:28 on the course, a long time record. That first mile going downhill went out fast, and meant that we had to come up that hill and then onto the switchbacks. The race went by fast. We were all in our Nike waffle racers, and we were thinking that we were fast. I believe our top 7 all ran PBs that day. We had gotten so strong from running hills around Lexington Dam and in Alum Rock park.

The season ended for the team there. I believe Pete Dolan made it to regionals, but for the rest of us, time to savor my last high school cross country season.

Next fall, it was on to Santa Clara University.

Saturday: warm-up, Race 5k, 30 minutes, plus 4 x 150 meter stride outs, cooldown

2021 RunBlogRun, week # 6, Fall Cross Country Racing Season, Day 6

Monday: AM for advanced: 30-minute run

Main workout: light run, 45 minutes easy pace, stretch, 4 x 150 m stride-outs, light cooldown.

Tuesday: warm-up, 4 x 800m, 3k race pace, 4x400m, 2k race pace, 30 minutes, moderate pace, 4 x 200m stride outs, cooldown

Wednesday: AM for advanced: 30-minute run.

Main workout: light run, 45 minutes easy pace, stretch, 4 x 150 m light cooldown.

Thursday: warm-up, 3 miles (12 laps on the track), sprint straightaways, jog turns, 30 minutes easy, 6 x 150m, stride outs, 20 minute cooldown

Friday: Advanced athletes, take light AM 30 minute run.

Main workout: light run, 45 minutes easy pace, stretch, 4 x 150 m stride-outs, light cooldown.

Saturday: warm-up, Race 5k, 30 minutes, plus 4 x 150 meter stride outs, cooldown

Sunday: Long run, 75-90 minutes, at a conversational pace
