Tomasz Majewski, the great Polish shot putter, is coming into form at the perfec time! A nice pb at the Aviva London Grand Prix was followed by a huge PB-21.95m to win the DN Galen on Thursday night in Sweden!


MAJEWSKI 21.95
STOCKHOLM (SWE, July 30): Olympic winner Tomasz Majewski of Poland showed excellent shape with winning the DN Galan shot put in center of the city achieving huge national record and world leading 21.95 metres. Reigning world champion Reese Hoffa of USA got very solid 21.53 and former world champion Adam Nelson as third 20.73 ahead of Olympic finalist Dylan Armstrong of Canada (20.42). In women competition Nadine Kleinert of Germany achieved 19.48 to win over US Michelle Carter who improved her life-time best to 19.13.
OTHER RESULTS
LA ROCHE SUR YON (FRA, July 30): Muriel Hurtis clocked at the international meet 23.33 at 200 m what is B-standard for World Championships. US Chris Lawson won the men´s 100 m in 10.36. Cedric Lavanne achieved 13.51 at 110 m hurdles over US Fred Townsend (13.53).
MUNSTER (GER, July 29): German Christoph Stolz leaped with 803 in long jump close to German B-standard of 805. So far only Sebastian Bayer is selected in German team for the long jump.
REDUIT (MRI, July 30): Wins by Kenya’s World junior champions Jonathan Ndiku and Mercy Cherono were the highlight on the opening day at the ninth Africa Junior Championships in Mauritius. Ndiku clocked in steeple race 8:28.83 and Cherono in 3000 m flat 8:54.96.
BERLIN NEWS
ARMENIA: Sprinter Ani Khachikyan and Javelin thrower Melik Janoyan will represent Armenia at the World Championships. Khachikyan, with a personal best of 12.17, will participate in 100m run. Melik Janoyan also a national record holder with a personal best of 78.03 will be hoping to give his best amidst the top throwers in the world at the German capital. His season best achieved at Artashat in May stands at 73.61. Informs European Athletics website.
SPAIN: Even though both Dolores Checa (5000m) and Concha Montaner (long jump, 2000 world junior champion) have World Championships A standards and would have been as-good-as automatic selections as they are the only Spaniards with the A standards in their events, neither will be going to Berlin as they have both very recently announced that they are pregnant.

NEW YORK (USA): Some of the world’s best long-distance runners, including defending champion Tadese Tola of Ethiopia, two-time IAAF World Half-Marathon Championships silver medalist Patrick Makau of Kenya, three-time 10,000m Olympian Abdi Abdirahman of the United States, ING New York City Marathon 2004 winner Hendrick Ramaala of South Africa, and 2008 Olympic marathon silver medalist and two-time World Marathon champion Jaouad Gharib of Morocco, will duel on the streets of Manhattan at the NYC Half-Marathon on Sunday, 16 August, it was announced today by New York Road Runners president and CEO Mary Wittenberg.
