NEW YORK (USA, Sep 26): Britain‘s Andy Baddeley and US Shannon Rowbury won the 29th edition of the Continental Airlines Fifth Avenue Mile here today in tight sprint finishes. Baddeley who is Europe‘s fastest miler in the 2008 season, made a brilliant move with just 20 meters to go, angling from the right side of the roadway to the tape and getting around Boaz Lalang of Kenya, Leo Manzano and Bernard Lagat. Baddeley, who was running his first Fifth Avenue Mile, clocked 3:52. Lalang finished second and Manzano third, both in 3:53. Lagat, the 2007 world 1500m and 5000m champion, was fourth and was given the same time 3:53. Rowbury also used the last 20 meters to her best advantage. Running in the middle of the roadway, she pierced through a pack of three challengers: defending champion and world medalist Lisa Dobriskey of Britain, 2006 Fifth Avenue champion Sara Hall, and former NCAA 1500m champion Hannah England of Britain. Rowbury, who was second her last year, was a clear winner in 4:24. Dobriskey, who was given the same time, finished second, just an eyelash ahead of Hall (a photo review was necessary to separate them). Christian Wurth-Thomas came from the right side of the avenue to take fourth (4:24), and England faded to fifth (4:26). Both Baddeley and Rowbury received $5000 in prize money. SCICLI (ITA, Sep 26): Multiple WAF winner Edwin Soi won the 20th Peppe Greco road race with 29:00 at 10 km. Meet record of Haile Gebrselassie 28:22 from 1997 remained untouched. Second Micah Kogo, third Daniele Meucci, fourth Ethiopian Feleke Cherkos.
ST. PETERBURG (RUS, Sep 26): Aleksey Popov won the Road Mile at Palace Square which was billed as Tatyana Kazankina prizes with 4:14.4. Second veteran Vyacheslav Shabunin close with 4:14.5. World finalist Natalya Yevdokimova won the women race in 5:00.3.
OKAYAMA (JPN, Sep 25-26): At Japanese Corporate team Track and Field Championships fast distance races by Kenyans. On Friday Gideon Ngatuny clocked 27:29.08 to win the 10 000 m over Josephat Ndambiri who achieved 27:29.11 and John Thuo (27:30.08). Very close fourth Ethiopian Yacob Jarso (27:30.08), best Japanese Satoru Kitamura as 9th (28:29.11). On Saturday Ndambiri turned the order and won the 5000 m in high quality 13:11.46 over Jonathan Ndiku (13:11.99), Martin Mathathi (13:12.63) and Ngatuny (13:18.63). In women races another Kenyan Philes Ongori registered a double with 15:28.11 and 32:50.30 wins. On Friday Ryoko Kizaki was second as best Japanese 32:51.51 and on Saturday Yuko Shimizu third (15:30.29) over Yurika Nakamura (15:31.52) and Kayoko Fukushi (15:32.45). Solid walks by Yuki Yamazaki 40:27.08 and Mayumi Kawasaki 43:21.90 at 10 000 m. Shinji Takahira clocked 20.63 (-1.6) to win the 200 m and Kenji Narisako 49.11 at 400 m hurdles.
BREZICE (SLO, Sep 26): Pole Vaulter Jure Rovan cleared 562 at street meet what is one cm more than his Slovenian record. It remains open whether the mark will be approved as new national record.
LIDINGO (SWE, Sep 26): At Swedish biggest running race Lidingoloppet on Saturday the winners at 30 km were Kenyan Japhet Kipkorir (1:39:42) and home Malin Everlof (1:57:46). The event continues on Sunday. In all races and categories through three days new record number of 36 926 runners was registered. Previous record was 34 775 runners.
CAORLE (ITA, Sep 26): During first day of Italian Club Championships (final round) 2004 Olympic winner Ivano Brugnetti won the 10 000 m walk in 40:18.38, Giuseppe Gibilisco cleared 520 in pole vault and Emanuele di Gregorio posted 10.59 against -2.1 wind at 100 m. Former Ugandan world champion Docus Inzikuru won the steeple (10:07.37), 32 years old sprinter veteran Manuela Levorato clocked 11.71 to win the 100 m. In lower league in Sulmona Elisa Cusma won the 1500 m in 4:22.69 and Nigerian Deji Musa achieved 10.40 (-1.4) at 100 m.

DAEGU (KOR): French hurdler Naman Keita returned after two years doping ban. He clocked 52.45 in Barletta, Italy on Sep 8 and better 51.39 as 5th in Daegu, Korea last Friday. The 31 years old Keita is olympic 2004 bronze medalist.
FRANKFURT (GER): Germany will not send any runners to the World Championships on October 11 in Birmingham.
KINGSTON (JAM): TrackAlerts.com writes, that the rumour which Daniel Bailey‘s coach Glen Mills described as ‚a vicious lie‘, led to the athlete‘s disappearance from the circuit. Days after Antiguan Bailey ran 9.93 for fourth in the 100m at the World Championships, a Swedish newspaper reported that the Racers Track Club member had tested positive. „It was a vicious lie,“ Mills said while praising the IAAF for coming out immediately to clear the air. „They have printed the apology in the country, but I don‘t know if that was enough,“ said Mills while noting Bailey‘s agent has retained lawyers in the country to proceed with possible legal action. Mills said that they are investigating the source of the information. He also said there is photo evidence of a particular person seen with the journalist on more than one occasion. „So it‘s a matter of pressuring the journalist to give the source,“ he added. Meanwhile, while saying „Bailey has never failed a drugs test“, Mills added „he did not continue running after the World Championships because, 1. He was having problem with his hamstring and 2. He felt mentally drained from the pressure of the vicious rumors.“ „It was really ugly for the poor young man,“ added Mills of Bailey who broke his country‘s national 100m record on four occasions this season, starting with 10.02 at the Jamaica Invitational in May and ended with 9.91 in Paris in July.
NEW YORK (USA): Mega star Usain Bolt is in New York for a brief media tour and will make a few stops to inlcude Jimmy Fallon On NBC on Tuesday, September 29 and a commercial shoot.
While in the Big Apple he stopped by Time Warner Inc. publisher of Sports Illustrated and Essence. This weekend, the track and field super star will be meeting with Jamaican and Caribbean Diaspora in Brooklyn. Bolt who was criticized for his short appearances in New York after his exploits at the Beijing Olympics last year is set for a free public event, dubbed „Conversations with Usain Lightening Bolt“ at the Walt Whitman Theater at Brooklyn College on Saturday from 5pm to 7pm.
Usain returns to the island on Wednesday.
STOCKHOLM (SWE): Swedish federation website informs, that Swedish TV Channels SVT and TV4 signed a five years agreement to broadcast the new series IAAF Diamond League from 2010 until 2014. It is not yet clear which meetings will be shown by SVT and which by TV4.
