Tim Seaman has won forty-one U.S. national championships in his racewalking career. He is now focused on setting a national record for most championships won, 65 by Ron Laird and Henry Laskau, with 42. This Sunday, October 18th in Long Island, New York. NYAC’s Tim Seaman will attempt to pick up his 41st US National Title at the USA Walk 30km Championships. This US Championship will be held at the NY State Dennison Building Complex in Hauppauge, NY. The 2,000 meter course is U-Shaped, designed for great viewing
Seaman, a 2-time US Olympian will move up in distance to gather another title. “It isn’t my favorite distance, as I have been focusing more on shorter distances for some time, but in my quest to win more nationals championships, I have had to expand to longer distances than I usually compete in.” He trails two USATF Hall of Famers for the most US Nationals Titles, Ron Laird at 65 and Henry Laskau with 42. Does Seaman think he can obtain 65 titles? “You never know” was Seaman’s response.
On a lighter note, he will marry Canadian Walker and winner of the 2009 Millrose Games Woman’s Mile, Rachel Lavallee on Halloween, October 31st, when asked about why on Halloween, all Seaman could muster, “yes, I know it’s Halloween”. At the recent IAAF World Championships 20km event in Berlin, Luis Fernando Lopez of Colombia, finished a very close to the podium 5th place, this was 4 spots closer than his 2nd Olympic Games appearance in Beijing, he will be a guest walker along with Sandra Zapata also of Colombia who is also a 2-time Olympian.
