RUDISHA ALSO OUT OF OSTRAVA

OSTRAVA (CZE): Unfortunately 800 m world record holder
David Rudisha withdrew from another competition the 50th Ostrava Golden Spike
next Tuesday. He was supposed to run there his 1000 m debut.  “I’m disappointed to have to withdraw from my
race in Ostrava.
My injury is certainly a lot better but I need a week or more of good running
before I can consider a race. I’m disappointed to miss Ostrava, one of my
favourite meetings. I think I must return next year,” Rudisha said. He is
confirmed for his next big race on June 30 in Lausanne.
New name in the race is last year world junior champion David Mutua who can
come close to the existing world junior record 2:15.00 at the distance.

HOFFA WL 21.87

HENGELO (NED, May 28) : Reese Hoffa impressed at the
FBK Games shot put competition held in the city’s central square ahead of
tomorrow’s FBK Games. Hoffa took home the win in a world leading 21.87, which
he managed in his first round throw and threw the shot over 21 meters four times. Poland’s
Olympic champion Tomasz Majewski reached 21.39 for second place with World
champion Christian Cantwell throwing a season’s best of 21.15. Canadian Dylan
Armstrong’s saw his six-meet win come to an end with a best of 20.96.

HARDEE AND ENNIS LEADING

GOTZIS (AUT, May 28): World champions Trey Hardee and Jessica Ennis
starred at the 37th edition of the Hypo meeting in Götzis. Hardee easily
outshone his competition with a dominant 10.45 in the 100m sprint
and 788 long jump. He went on to throw 15.63 in the shot put, only to be beaten by
German Pascal Behrenbruch (16.44). Hardee was bothered by cramps in the high
jump but still managed a solid 2
meters. Youngest competitor in the field Thomas Van der
Plaetsen was the only athlete to jump over 209. Hardee later finished the day
with 48.12 over 400m with only Cuban Yunior Diaz (47.53) and Ukraine’s Oleksiy
Kasyanov (48.11) being able to better Hardee. With 4553 points after 5 events
the current world champion could be on his way to breaking Dan O’Brien’s
American national record of 8891 points. 
Heptathlon’s golden girl Jessica Ennis got started quickly with 13.03
over the hurdles and a strong 191
in the high jump. In the shot put, as expected, Austra
Skujyte dominated the event with 16.23, while Natalia Dobrynska (15.28) and
Antoinette Nana Djimou Ida (14.44) scored better than Ennis (13.94). In the
final 200m Dutch junior athlete Dafne Schippers ran an incredible 22.90, to
qualify in the individual event for the World Championships. Ennis improved on
her PB with 23.11 to solidly stay in the lead with 4097 on the first day.
Canadian Jessica Zelinka (3797), back from a two year break, and junior athlete
Dafne Schippers (3767) complete the overnight top three. Both Hardee and Ennis
scored their best first days.

HEIDLER WINS

DAKAR (SEN, May 28): At the IAAF World challenge meeting in Dakar
brand new hammer world record holder Betty Heidler confirmed her excellent
shape and scored again a solid 75.33 while also Botswana’s Amanthle Montso confirms
her good form with a 22.88 win in the 200m. World Champion Caster Semenya is on
her way back with a 2:00.61 win in the 800m, in the men’s race Amine Laalou
comfortably won in 1:46.65. Marrocan sprinter Aziz Ouhadi won the 100m sprint
in 10.09 national record while Shawn Crawford (20.58) narrowly won the 200m
over Ben Youssef Meité (20.60). Sudanese Rabah Yousif clocked 45.64 over 400m,
Johhny Dutch manages the 400H victory in 49.17 and Aleksandr Menkov scores 816
to win the long jump. Another Russian victory went to Aleksey Dmitrik in the
high jump with 230. Funmi Jimoh was the winner of a windy women’s long jump
with 678 (+4.7) over European champ Ineta Radevica (660, +1.7). Good 3000 m by Mohamed Moustaoui
of Morocco
(7:43.99).

OTHER RESULTS

BEOGRAD (SRB, May 28): Turkish Enka Spor Kulubu on the
men side and Slovak Spartak Dubnica on the women side won the B group of
European Champion Clubs Cup. Athletes of Enka achieved four turkish records.
Izzet Safer in both sprints 10.36 and 20.96, Serdar Tamac in the 400 m (46.55) and the club
relay 3:08.07. Dubnica scored wins by Veldakova twins Dana (13.46 in triple, three
fouls) and Jana (650 in
long jump). Second in women competitions was Ferrybank of Ireland just one
point ahead of CA Montreuil of France.

EUGENE (USA, May 27): Josh Mance clocked in
NCAA West Region 45.45 in
the 400 m
semifinal, Elijah Greer 1:45.98 in the 800 m semi and Jeshua Anderson 49.59 in the 400 m hurdles semi.

KATOWICE (POL, May 28): In the Polish University
Championships Wojciech Theiner cleared 223 in high jump. Good walks by Gregorz Sudol
(19:09.02) and Agnieszka Dygacz 21:52.37 in the 5000 m.

STOCKHOLM (SWE, May 28): A record number of 16 131
runners started the 33rd edition of the Stockholm Marathon. 15 471 of them
managed to complete the race a windy day with mild temperatures of 12-14
degrees. Isabellah Andersson became the first woman to win the race four times
in 2:37:28. The Kenya-born runner who attained Swedish citizenship two years
ago had to sustain an athroscopic surgery in late March and resumed her
training six weeks later. Still she executed a perfect race plan. Andersson
increased the pace violently after 35 slow kilometers. Japan’s Eri Okubo (2:38:58) and Russia’s Irina
Permitina (2:39:44) couldn’t go with her. The men started extremely
conservative, 49:18 at 15K. A group of eight Africans reached the half marathon
mark in 1:08.37. Dominic Pius Ondoro, who has been Isabellah Andersson’s
pacemaker during her training stints in Kenya, made a burst after 25K and
completed the following five kilometers in 14:55. Shumi Gerbaba stayed with him
and soon the Ethiopian took control of the race, ending it in 2:14.07. That
means that Gerbaba completed the second half three minutes faster than the
first! Second Ondoro 2:14:23 and third Kenneth Korir 2:15:09.

GENEVE (SUI, May 28): Fast sprints at EAP meet in Geneve. James Dasaolu
got 10.12 (+1.1) and also 10.11 (+1:1) in heats. Harry Aikines-Aryeetey was
second in 10.17 (10.13 in
heats). Swiss Alex Wilson improved to 20.51 (-0.8) in the 200 m over Briton Danny
Talbot 20.54 (also PB). Conrad Williams won the 400 m (45.71) and Niall
Flannery the 400 m
hurdles (49.88). Sensational 231 by Greek Dimitrious Chondrokoukis in high
jump. US Mary Wineberg won the 400
m (51.71) and Briton Meghan Beesley the hurdles (56.21).

TARTU (EST, May 28): At national series Kuldliiga
meeting Vadim Vasilevskis achieved world leading 88.22 in javelin ahead of
Russian Dmitriy Tarabin 82.61 and Latvian world junior record holder Zigismunds
Sirmais 80.59. Olympic winner Gerd Kanter got 66.06 in discus. Russian
Olga Balayeva leaped to excellent 675 (+0.9) in the long jump.

JENA (GER, May 28): Varg Konigsmark who belongs
into junior category clocked good 50.59 at 400 m hurdles.

WEINHEIM (GER, May 28): Nigerian Peter Emelieze won here the 100 m in 10.18 (+1.0) and
Algerian Othman Hadj Lazib the 110
m hurdles in 13.67 (+0.9).4x100m relays Germany (Y.
Kwadwo; M. Wagner; C. Tschirch; L. Gunther) 43.33 Good women sprints by Yasmin
Kwadwo 11.29 (+1.0) in the 100

HANNOVER (GER, May 28): High jumper Eike Onnen is back
in shape with 231 clearance.

LECCE (ITA, May 27): Daniele Greco leaped here to
16.95 (+0.2) in the triple jump.

NOBEOKA (JPN, May 28): At Golden Games meet Masato Yokota posted 1:46.86
in the 800 m
and Kazuya Watanabe beat Africans in the 5000 m (13:23.15). In the women 5000 m Ann Karindi of Kenya achieved
15:15.89 ahead of Selly Kaptich (15:17.75).
