Trey Hardee and Jessica Ennis showed that, for 2011, they are the top multi eventers going into Daegu, and also London 2012. Should be interesting to see how both do in Daegu this coming August 2011!
HARDEE AND ENNIS GREAT SCORES
GOTZIS (AUT, May 29) : Trey Hardee and Jessica Ennis
confirmed their world number one status with a world leading performance at the
Hypo Meeting Gotzis (IAAF combined events challenge). Trey Hardee missed out on
breaking the American national record but still scored a massive 8689 world
leading decathlon. Hardee started the second day strong with 13.73 over the
hurdles, but then only managed 45.20 in the discus throw, it was Mikk
Pahapill from Estonia who got the victory
in 48.79. It was no surprise European silver medalist Eelco Sintnicolaas went
on to win the pole vault in 536, but he did miss out on breaking the meeting
record of 555. Trey Hardee managed a decent 506, with only 5 other athletes
breaking the 5 meter barrier. Cuban Leonel Suarez got a massive throw of 75.49
to win the javelin in a new meeting record. Jan Felix Knobel got second with
72.99 while Hardee only managed 63.33. The closing 1500m didn’t change the top
three with Hardee (8689) comfortably winning and Cuban Leonel Suarez second with
8440, third is Estonian Mikk Pahapill (8398). Jessica Ennis opened her day with
a solid 637 in the long jump, but it was Russian Tatyana Chernova who stole the
spotlight with a strong 682 jump. With 43.83 Ennis stayed in the lead after the
javelin throw while French European indoor champion Antoinette Nana Djimou Ida
powered to a javelin victory of 51.11. World indoor and outdoor champion
Jessica Ennis showed she was in control all the way with a 2:08.46 victory in the 800m and a 6790
overall total to win her second Gotzis title in the last two years. Last year’s
IAAF Combined events challenge winner Tatyana Chernova (6539) got second and
French Antoinette Nana Djimou Ida (6409) third.
LUCH MOSCOW WINS
VILA REAL (POR, May 28-29): Russian Luch Moscow teams won
clearly the European Champion Clubs Cup A group in Portugal. Men with 134
points ahead of Spanish Playas de Castellon 113 and Italian Fiamme Gialle 105.
Fourth place for home team of Sporting Clube de Portugal 102. Fifth British
side Newham and Essex Beagles (101). Last saved in the A group is Czech AK
Kromeriz (63). Relegated are Sparta Copenhagen (58) and Slovak Spartak Dubnica
(40). In the women competition only six teams. Luch had 99 points with Turkish
Enka Spor Kulubu second (82) and third Sporting Clube de Portugal 74. Spanish
Valencia was fourth 72 with Italian Esercito fifth (70) and Atletiek Rotterdam
(22). Russian athletes achieved top individual results. Aleksey Zagorniy 79.80
in hammer, Maksim Sidorov 20.23 in shot put, Lyudmila Kuzmina 9:43.45 in women
steeple, in strong winds Aleksandr Derevyagin 50.14 at 400 m hurdles, Svetlana
Shkolina cleared 191 in high jump. Home sprint star Francis Obikwelu won the
100 m in 10.44 (-2.1) but lost the 200 m (21.03) with Yunier Perez (20.95).
Frank Casanas got 64.16 in discus, Josephine Oniya 13.37 (-0.9) at 100 m
hurdles and Mercedes Chilla 61.72 in javelin for Spanish teams. New national
Portugal record for Vania Silva in hammer 69.55 as winner. Naide Gomes won the
long jump (674, +1.9). Sprint women double for in-shape Bulgarian Ivet Lalova
who was running for Turkish club (11.47, -2.9 and 23.22, -1.6). Another top guest win on behalf of Turkish
Enka was Olga Rypakova 14.22 (-1.7) in the triple jump. Windy long jump saw
Chris Tomlinson leaping to 828 (+3.8) over Luis Felipe Meliz (820, +3.3).
OTHER
RESULTS
SLOVENSKA BISTRICA (SLO, May 29): Martina Ratej achieved
world leading 65.89 in javelin at the meet here. Primoz Kozmus returned to
action after break with 75.10 in hammer. Both will compete in Ostrava. Bosnian
Hamza Alic got 20.38 in shot put.
BEDFORD (GBR, May 29):
First day of British Inter county champs. David Bolarinwa, world youth
olympic bronze medallist, clocked PB 10.29 (+1.5). Tom Parsons had a good 227
in high jump and Goldie Sayers began her season with 61.61m in the javelin.
KINGSTON (JAM, May 28): Jamaican world medalist Maurice
Smith scored 8078 points to win the NACAC Combined events. In the women
heptathlon Emily Pearson of USA achieved 5585.
SPANISH TOWN (JAM, May 29): Nesta Carter opened his 100 m
season at local meet with 10.27 (-0.4) ahead of Oshane Bailey 10.30. Michael
Mason won the 400 m in 45.91.
MARABELLA (TRI, May 28): Trinidad´s top sprinter Darrel
Brown clocked at a local meet 10.22 (+0.2).
PLONSK (POL, May 29): Malgorzata Trybanska achieved a
solid double 651 (+1.4) and 14.12 (+1.1).
TORUN (POL, May 29): Karolina Tyminska won the national heptathlon title
with good 6206 points.
FORBACH (FRA, May 29): At French Meeting National D1
double for Bahamas Michael Mathieu 20.78 (-1.5) and 46.39. Kenyan Benson Seurei
posted solid 1:45.79 in the 800 m. Karl Taillepierre leaped to good 17.08
(+1.6) in the triple jump. European champion Romain Barras tested his shape in
a triathlon (14.96 hurdles, 190 high jump and 14.42 in shot put) with a score
of 2353 points. Olympic winner Francoise Mbango got 14.03 (0.0) in triple jump
and Stephanie Falzon 71.53 in hammer.
ZEULENRODA (GER, May 29): British sprinter Anyika Onuora
was fast at this German international with 11.18 (+1.6) and 23.15 (+0.4). Ma
Xuejun of China won the discus (62.53). South African Ofentse Mogawane got
45.59 in the 400 m and Sebastian Ernst 20.74 (+0.9) in the 200 m.
LAATCH (ITA, May 28): Andrea Betinelli and Nicola Ciotti
cleared at the high jump 221 cm.
