Nike Lunar Eclipse 2 Named Best Motion Stabilizing Shoe in Running Network LLC Shoe Review

FORT ATKINSON, WISCONSIN – Top honors in the motion stabilizing category of the Running Network LLC Spring Shoe Review went to the Nike Lunar Eclipse 2.

“The Running Network LLC is excited to name, what our talented team believes to be, the best running performance footwear of spring 2012,” noted Larry Eder, the president of Running Network LLC. “Any shoe that wins its category has done an outstanding job to earn the title of best shoe.”

The review process starts with shoes being matched to the shape and footstrike of 350 wear testers. While running 100 miles in the shoes, testers report periodically on seven key performance characteristics. To produce a winner in each category the data gathered from the testers is entered into a software system developed by Cregg Weinmann, the Running Network LLC footwear and apparel review editor.

“Motion stabilizing shoes use firmer foam on the inside edge of the shoe to keep them lined up. These are for runners who have feet that roll inward too much causing the inside edge of the shoe’s midsole to break down, making them unstable,” said Weinmann.

The Nike Lunar Eclipse 2 builds on the previous generation. In round two, the heel clip has been stripped down to lighten things while still anchoring the heel fit. In the midfoot a new self-adjusting framework of straps secures the foot during motion. The closed mesh features no-sew overlays giving a soft, luxury feeling to the shoe. The midsole went unchanged from round one. The outersole now features “environmentally preferred” rubber that is tough and great for traction. Combining superb fit with stability and a plush feel, the Lunar Eclipse earned top honors as best motion stabilizing shoe (Weinmann 2012).

“Overall, a fun shoe to have on for a run. It transitions very smoothly from heel to forefoot for a quiet, gliding run. I run 250-300 miles per month. Minimal wear after 100 miles. Seems to be very durable,” said an anonymous wear tester when describing the Lunar Eclipse 2.

“There are considerable similarities in the running footwear industry and consumers need to be aware that there are shoes from many brands that could work for them. We reviewed many fine shoes that should be considered because they fit and perform differently on different runners, so trying several is the only way to find the best shoe for you,” said Weinmann.
