David Bedford, one of the co-founders of the Virgin London Marathon, and former world record holder at 10,000 meters, speaks about the race that he has helped craft since 1981.
The 2012 men’s field is one of the deepest in many years. With the Virgin London being the de facto trials for Kenya and Ethiopia, it also is the deciding race for the top two British Men and one women!
The truth be told, Bedford is like the late artist, Lucian Freud, one of the greatest painters of the 20th century. He takes a thoughtful approach to developing his fields, and
he does it because he understand and loves his sport. Bedford’s fields are a work of art, period.

His first article, on Don Bowden, America's first sub-4 minute miler, was published in RW in 1983. He currently manages the content and marketing development of the RunningNetwork, The Shoe Addicts, and RunBlogRun.
