In his sixth race at the distance, Evan Jager has broken the AR of Dan Lincoln and become only the fourth American who has broken 8:10 in the steeple (Henry Marsh, Mark Croghan, Dan Lincoln).

Nickel Ashmeade has shown his talent for the past year. Nickel showed his fitness and talent once again with his win, at 20.02. Churandy Martina finished a close second in 20.07 and Wallace Spearmon lost his first race of the year, taking third in 20.09.

The 400 meters added some mystery to the 400 meters. First, LaShawn Merritt dropped out about 180 meters into the race, citing a cramp right after the race. Jonathan Borlee won in 44.74, with Kirani James, the 2011 WC, running into shape, taking second in 44.76. Kevin Borlee, brother of Jonathan Borlee, was third in 44.94. Jeremy Wariner took fifth in 45.28.
What is the issue with LaShawn Merritt? More to come on this one.

Ten men under 1:45. Pretty impressive. Abrahmim Kipchirchir Rotich, the World Junior champ, lowered his pb once again, winning here in 1:43.13. Leonard Kirwa Kosencha ran with Rotich until the last 20 meters, running 1:43.40. Duane Solomon of the US held on for a huge PB, with his 1:43.44. Kevin Lopez broke the Spanish record with his 1:43.74 in fourth. Nick Symmonds runs 1:43.78, his seasonal best, in fifth place.

3000 Metres Steeplechase – Men
The near collision of Consesius Kipruoto and Paul Koech reminded me of Haile Gebrselassie in World Junior 10,000m. Dramatic, and Kipruto kept on standing, holding onto the win as the two leaders bumped about 30 meters out. Evan Jager was in fifth to sixth, and with two laps to go, started to push, and moved into second place for a short time. His 8:06.81 AR took down the record of Dan Lincoln, the last American who did not fear the steeplechase. Jager made the steeplechase look easy, it is not, and Jager is just beginning to show his talent.
