The Trailer has its newest podcast on Matt Gabrielson, who has decided to retire and focus on his family and coaching. The Trailer dedicated a podcast to Matt, who, with Jason Lemkuhle, put Team USA Minnesota on the map!
I wanted to drop you a note about The Trailer’s latest, on Team USA Minnesota’s Matt Gabrielson and his retirement.
After a disappointing result at the U.S. Olympic team trials marathon, Gabrielson had refocused, with the goal of the 2012 Twin Cities Marathon on October 6, with the aim of taking down his 2:13:28 best and going for the win a la Jason Hartmann in 2009.
Running one night in late August, he arrived back to his house, where his wife and baby daughter were waiting for him on the porch. He sat down next to them and said, “I have this feeling I don’t want to do this anymore.” And that was the last time he ran.
Gabrielson has been a perennial threat in the USA Running Circuit, and was a four-time U.S. world team member (XC, 2005-7; World Champs marathon, 2009). He joined Team USA Minn. in 2001, and with teammate Jason Lehmkuhle, is largely responsible for the establishment of the team on the national stage.
