The first day of the Sainsbury Anniversary Games, one year to the day of the London 2012 Olympic Games had some strong performances. From Zuzana Henjova’s 53.07 for the 400 meter hurdles, a Czech NR, which opened the meet, to Bondarenko’s clearances of 2.28m, 2.32m and 2.38m on first attempts, then one at 2.40m and two attempts at, yes, I am not making this up, 2.47m. Afterwards, he told media, ” I think I can make this in Moscow.” WOW.

Finishing off the meet was Usain Bolt. With a simply bad start, Usain Bolt pulled it out in the middle of the race, running a world leading 9.85.

Bolt 9.85, Bondarenko attempted 247, Hejnova 53.07

LONDON (GBR, Jul 26): Sainsbury´s Anniversary Games first day in Olympic Stadium (IAAF Diamond League) registered in good summer weather and before 60 000 spectators 3 world leads, one meet record, one DL record and confirmation of DR win for Czech Hejnova (her 53.07 was the female performance of the day). Bolt delivered a good win in 9.85 WL. But the flying man of the evening was Bondarenko who attempted unreal 247.

Event by event

Men

Gemili won the B-race in 10.16 (+0.3). “My start was poor and I need to work on that. To make a perfect race I need to make a good start and just get into the race. Hopefully I can make a good time at Moscow and continue to do well,” said Bolt who arrived in the opening ceremony in a car built from a rocket.

200 m: Weir ruled in another fast time, already fourths sub 20 of the year (19.89, +0.2). Young who is not running in Moscow second 19.99 ahead of Spearmon 20.18 and Lemaitre 20.23.
